Surrounded by her sisters in Community at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, Sister Eleanor passed away peacefully on September 9, 2015. She was in her 57th year of Religious Life as a Sister of St. Joseph in Canada, Pembroke Neighbourhood. Sister was born in Farrellton, Quebec, a daughter of the late John and Bertha (Mahoney). Left to celebrate her life among us are her Sisters in the Congregation, her sister, Maureen (Cuddihey), as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Claude and Walter. Sister Eleanor was a Teacher and Principal and inspired children in schools located in Pembroke, Chalk River, Deep River, Douglas, Killaloe, Maynooth, Read, and Marmora. Following her teaching career, she retired in Ottawa and continued teaching Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. She was appointed as the Holy Childhood Representative for the Archdiocese of Ottawa. We are proud of the hard work she did for children of the Catholic faith, preparing them to receive the sacraments. At her request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Motherhouse, 1127 Pembroke Street West, Pembroke on Saturday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at a later date at St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke.
