Eleanor Huizar Obituary

Eleanor Huizar
 born on July 29, 1926
 Los Angeles, California

For ninety two years the world was graced with a special laughter and love that only those who knew Eleanor could describe. On November 15th, 2018 at 6:10am in Montebello, California. Eleanor Huizar passed onward in the arms of her youngest daughter. On her final days she was surrounded by family and friends in her home of 64 years.

She as a women of many talents and titles, having worked until she was forced to retire at the age of 77. Many knew her as a nurse for the USC County Hospital where she was amongst the first to work with dying AIDS patients. Before that she was a member of the Sheriffs Department, the mounted police rescue team, a taxi driver, a Vegas card dealer, and a factory worker during the Second World War.

Although she was the recipient of several prestigious awards such as "Woman of the year" 1996 from the State of California, when asked, she would say her biggest accomplishment was her seven children... Peter, Edward, Esperanza, Carl, Eleanor, Jamie and Brian. She was the matriarch of a very large family consisting of twenty four grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. For the longest time she was also the oldest living member of the Huizar family. She was one of four children which consisted of Teresa, Jack and Alfredo. To Eleanor family was everything and everyone was family. She was Mom and Grandma to many and a friend to all. She will be forever loved, admired, and remembered.

My Tia Eleanor was an amazing women. When I heard of her passing I was in shocked. I was planning on visiting her that coming week, but I kept thinking I want to remember her the last conversation we had. She was one of my major role models growing up. I remember going over as a kid and pretending I was a singer in her living room. I would love to hear her stories of medicine. Through her the desire to enter the medical field was highly encouraged by my Tia. She took care of my grandfather, even my grandmother. There was a moment in my life where I was homeless with 3 kids and just got our of a domestic situation. She helped, and give me really good advice. I will greatly miss her, but my goal is still to become a nurse that will make her proud. Thank you for being there for me. Thank yuh for teaching me and loving me. I love you.
