Eleanor M. Kibbie

Eleanor M. Kibbie, 91, of Davenport, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Faith United Church of Christ, 1630 West 38th Street, Davenport. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in East Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, Davenport.
Mrs. Kibbie was born December 15, 1914, in Fonda, Iowa, to Samuel and Margaret (Stegge) Hiatt. She had been valedictorian of her high school graduating class in Pocahontas, Iowa. On February 27, 1942, she married Ivan Kibbie in Kahoka, Mo. He died in October 2001. She was a teacher for 30 years, teaching at Adams Elementary School, Davenport, for the last 18 years of her career, and retiring in 1975. Her memberships included Faith United Church of Christ and its Ruth Circle and the Iowa State Education Association.
Survivors include a son, Dr. James Kibbie, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sisters, Berniece Hiatt, of Pocahontas, Iowa, and Louise Mercer, of Watertown, Mass.; and a brother, Robert Hiatt, of Pocahontas, Iowa. Nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, generations of her students, her many friends, and her Ridgecrest family also survive.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Decker.
