Eleanor Leo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2009.
Leo, Eleanor G.
February 8, 1924 - December 21, 2009
Born in Los Angeles, California; died in Los Angeles, in her home of 58 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert. She was mother of Karen Fiske (Charles), Tom Leo (Suzie) and Jim Leo (Terri); "Grams" to Erik, Lauren and Julia Fiske, and Daniel, Alex, Matthew, Megan and Melissa Leo; sister-in-law of Ruth Schireson Levin; and aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt to many.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA in 1944 with her B.S. in Chemistry, and worked as an organic chemist for a time. After many years of very active involvement with the PTA, she had a thirty-year career on the staff of the Los Angeles Unified School District, retiring from the position of Senior Legislative Analyst in the Office of Government Relations. She volunteered for decades with the American Jewish Committee. In earlier years, she was an avid backpacker and enjoyed sewing and knitting. Throughout her life, she held an abiding love for music, both jazz and classical.
Her family will deeply miss her for her love, her loving interest in all things relating to her family, and her wit. She will live on in our memories of wonderful times with her.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 24, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at Hillside Mortuary, 6001 Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the AJC (American Jewish Committee), 9911 West Pico Boulevard, Suite 1602, Los Angeles, CA 90035, are welcome.
