Eleanor Levkoff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 29, 2017.
Eleanor Levkoff, known to friends and family by her childhood nickname "Gayle," passed away early Sunday morning, June 25, at Normandie Ridge. Gayle was one of six daughters born to Floyd and Pearl Sanders of Fairfield. She was married for nearly 50 years to the late Alvin Levkoff, a WWII veteran. Together they raised a family of four children in North Caldwell, NJ and later moved to York, Pa. Gayle worked at Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company until her retirement.  She loved gardening, her family, playing bridge, and caring for pet dogs. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, and listening to country music. She is survived by a younger sister, Loretta Funk of York and three children: Sandra, Gary and Jerry and his wife Elaine and their three children. Her eldest son, Mark, predeceased her. Services will be private in loving remembrance.
Arrangements entrusted to the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. York PA.

I thought I saw your face today
In the sparkle of the morning sun.
And then I heard the angel say,
"Her work on earth is done."

I thought I heard your voice today
Then laugh your hearty laugh.
And then I heard the angel say,
"There's peace little one at last."

I thought I felt your touch today
In the breeze that rustled by.
And then I heard the angel say,
"The spirit never dies."

I thought that you had left me
For the stars so far above.
And then I heard the angel say,
"She left you with her love."

I thought that I would miss her
And never find my way.
And then I heard the angel say,
"She's with you every day."

The news of Aunt Gayle's passing has deeply sadden me today.

Aunt Gayle held a special place in both my life and development as a person. She was always willing to give me instructions on how to make a tasty Matzos pizza, made me the best peanut butter fudge ever whenever I returned to York or showed me the wonderment of nature (baby mice born in the bottom of an old, rusty bucket at the River) and, of course, how to be appreciative for what I had, which grew out of the great road trip West. Such memories and many, many others are indeed cherished moments I had with Aunt Gayle.

I extend not only my condolences but that of my entire family (Denise, Shawn, Andree, Mackenzie and Ashlyn) to the entire Levkoff family, especially my cousins: Sandy, Jerry and Gary.

I forever have in my heart the special place that you hold. All the memories made at the river and treks with you to the west are thought of often. Miss talking with you. Condolences to my cousins and mom.

What a lovely photo tribute to Aunt Gayle and family. Such good memories of a smart, strong, warm and humorous woman.

You were a fantastic lady and a loving and wonderful Mom. You taught me to love music and theater and books. We played Jeopardy and card games together...though I never could really learn bridge very well. You brought our family together around the table night after night for the wonderful meals you cooked for us. You took us on trips to Williamsburg, Skyline Drive, Colorado and much more. You and Dad made it possible for us to spend wonderful summers in Cape Cod and at our little summer house on the banks of the Susquehanna River. You brought us up healthy, took us to the doctor, the dentist, the eye doctor...made sure we got the medicines we needed. You worked for 12 years at Harley-Davidson and helped me to get work there too. You helped me in so many ways. I am grateful every day for being your son.

Happy memories of going to "Aunt Gayle's" along the river with our Pappy (J.W. Stevens aka Bill) when we were younger. She was always so kind to us and our Mom (Patsy Henry) spoke of her often. Hugs to all of you.
