Eleanor Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2011.
WILSON, Eleanor Eleanor, the elegant dancing queen, passed away at home on Monday, April 11, 2011, surrounded by the love of family. Throughout her 10-month illness, she chose to celebrate life, never complained and enjoyed the company of good friends and family. She inspired everyone with her courage, spunk, humour and sense of style. Born in Belfast, N. Ireland, on April 20, 1944, Ellie was always the belle of the ball - in fashion and on the dance floor. A few hours after marrying her sweetheart, David Wilson, the two boarded ship and emigrated to Canada in 1965. They settled in Toronto for three years before moving to Fort Churchill, Manitoba, where David became a popular teacher at a school for Inuit and Ellie raised two young daughters, Janet and Jennifer. The family moved to Ottawa in 1973 and made hundreds of friends in their adopted city. Ellie was beloved by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, Patrick (deceased), Benjamin and Emerson and son-in-laws Kevin Raffler and David Hadden. She was a loving sister to David (deceased) and Philip O'Brien (Anne, Emma and Martin) and Patricia (Donnie) Henshaw and family and doting daughter to Elinor O'Brien (deceased). She will be deeply missed by her friends and relatives in N. Ireland, Scotland and England, her dear friends from Chesterton Drive and Cullen Court and her amazing pals at Britannia Yacht Club, as well as the old Queensview crowd. Ellie, the social butterfly, was a top model during the 70s and 80s, working for Canadian designers and modelling at shows in the capital. She spent more than two decades working in the fragrance and cosmetic industry in Ottawa. Over recent months, Ellie missed all the gossip, as well as her colleagues and customers. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Camp Trillium (camptrillium.com) in Eleanor's name would be appreciated. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced shortly.

A day doesnt go by when I dont think of Ellie especially when Im getting ready for bed and tired. There she is on my shoulder telling me to remove my eye makeup.
I also remember that NYE at BYC when Donnie was the NYE baby. I wasnt impressed with my husband especially when he discovered his wallet was taken out of his pants while dressed in the diaper. The band announced this happened and it appeared with nothing taken.
Thank you to whomever did the right thing.
Lots of great memories of Ellie over the years. With loads of love my very special friend. Thanks for the memories

I still feel the love of Ellie. I think of her laughter, her joy and her warmth. Eleanor will always be a presence in my life and I will forever feel her blessing in my heart.
My thoughts go out to you David and your family today and always.

David, janet and jennifer, so many thoughts today of the year that has passed without my darling Eleanor, I just am so glad she was part of my life, love to you all, joan

2011 was a year of loss. I have thought so much about Eleanor, David, Janet and Jen and how we met. Eleanor had just had Janet and I had Cary-Lee when we met in the park next to our apartment. David and Gerry became "football" budies. We both delivered our next girls, Jennifer and Remmick just a short time apart. I love remembering those great times here in Kingston where you would camp each summer. The years passed and Jen and Remmick took off backpacking. Eleanor and I spent many an hour talking and worrying about the girls as they traveled throughout Israel and Eygpt. So many memories, all good even nursing David and Gerry after broken ankles. What a wonderful friend (even thought we lost touch for a bit)great sense of humour, style and grace. Thanks for the memories. love Gerry and Charlotte.

Hi, I have thought of Eleanor often over the pat year. And you, as well. I know it has to have been a difficult year for you. Hopefully the passing of time has lessened the pain a little and happy memories replace the sad ones.

Jenn, Janet and Mr. Wilson,
Words can't express the sadness I feel today having just heard the news about your mom. I will fondly remember her beautiful smiling face and the "catch-up" chats we would have when I bumped into her at the mall. She we one of a kind. There is another super shiny star in the sky now...shining down just for you...the family she loved so much!
Much Love,

I was jolted by shocking news tonight to learn of the passing of a generous, beautiful, passionate and exciting dear friend. We spent many years laughing together and sharing stories, and although we may have seen less of each other over the last few years when we did we were guaranteed a laugh and an embrace. Eleanor is all things everyone has described, as each of you know, and all of us have been blessed to have this extraordinary individual touch our lives. I wish each of you the fondest, happiest and best memories and despite the tears there eventually will be more smiles and that was one of Eleanors great gifts, laughter!

To David and your lovely daughters
Its was with great sadness that we learnt of Eleanor's death, but as everyone has remarked she has left such wonderful happy memories. I remember her style and energy and Brian remembers her as 'the bashful one'! Was it possible to get a photo without Ellie May getting centre stage?
Our thoughts are with you.

David, Janet and Jennifer,
I was so saddened to hear of Eleanor's passing. Memories of a Grand Lady indeed! From meeting at the Queensview for our "spandex workouts" 28 years ago, and so proud to have "her daughters" coming to workout with her as the years went on, to watching her and David model for local shows, ("what a handsome couple" people would say) , then rekindling with Eleanor at the cosmetic counters around Ottawa. Always a smile always a pleasure.
Big Hugs,

I extend my sincere sympathies to David and all in Eleanor's family. I did not hear about the celebration of her life reception until it was to late to attend. I first met Eleanor when I worked with Estee Lauder at the old Eaton's in Bayshore, later in fragrances at Rideau and Sear's Carlingwood. I remember good times socialising at get togethers with fragrance girls. Having a father that hailed from Belfast, we could chat and also understand how things used to be in N. Ireland in years past. I am glad that one of the last times we were together I took some photos, where she was happy and smiling. Eleanor was a great
girl in all ways, and she will be missed. Keep your memories of her close to your hearts and she will always be with you.

Dear David and family,
My sincere and deepest sympathies to you all. What a great loss. It's hard to believe that I will not see Eleanor's beautiful face, smile and her hugs whenever I walked in to Sears, the Bay and lastly at BYC.

I remember when we first met at the Greenway Glen squash club, Queensview, the golf & tennis in Kanata and weekend trips to Calabogie and Lake Placid, N.Y. Always fun and laughter. Eleanor loved people and is loved by everyone who knew her.

May God Bless her soul and Bless you all with good health, peace and great memories. I will miss you dear Ellie. xxoo

I was so saddened to read of the loss of Ellie. I was a regular client of hers for many years at Elizabeth Arden. She was always cheerful, caring and funny.
She cherished her family and never tired of expressing her love for them all; sharing stories both funny and poignant.
During the illness of my husband and his death 2 years ago Ellie sent me several cards and little "gifts". Even though I was "only" one of her customers she showed me that cared about me and wished me well. She will be greatly missed.
