Elisabeth Grant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2024.
Elisabeth A. Grant, known affectionately as "Betsy," passed away on September 17, 2024, at her home in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, at the age of 65. Born on March 4, 1958, in New Orleans, and was a lifelong resident of Louisiana.

Elisabeth spent over four decades as a jewelry artist in the Historic French Market, where she earned her nickname "The Pearl Lady". Her work not only beautified countless lives but also embodied the spirit of New Orleans' vibrant culture.

A graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School, Betsy furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in English from Southeastern University of Louisiana. Her education fueled her passion for words, and the arts, which was evident in both her career and her hobbies.

Known for her kind soul and hardworking nature, Elisabeth was a devoted mother who lived life on her own terms. She found joy in making jewelry and cherished the time spent with her children, Katherine and Justin, who survive her. Elisabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Virginia Wilson Grant and George D. Grant, and her sister, Lucinda Louise Grant.

A celebration of Elisabeth's life will be held at Ralph's on the Park followed by interment at Metairie Cemetery on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 12:30 to 3:00 PM. Her life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, as she left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

I cannot believe you are gone, Betsy. You made the world seem a celebration of life, as if you were always amused!

Betsy of the the generous heart, no matter the challenge you expected a positive resolution, inspiring all of us to keep going.

My heart is broken with losing your hearty laugh, you generosity, your open door. You always made your Texas family feel warmly welcome in your home.

Elisabeth, you enriched my life. Grateful that we got to share the time we had.
Forever love-
Elaine McNamara

I am shocked and saddened beyond words to learn of Betsy´s passing. She was one of my few best childhood friends. We attended OLPH and was in the same class. We walked the railroad track and levee to each other´s house often together and picked blackberries along the way. We did so much together - children´s choir where we´d try to out sing each other (and neither one of us could sing!), we volunteered a lot to help Father with Mass at the state school, played countless hours of basketball and volleyball in my driveway. We even swam in the river during high tide and smoked a few cigarettes in the woods behind her house even though we knew better. Our birthdays were 2 days a part but we felt like we shared a birthday. Rest in peace my dear sweet, sweet friend. Thank you Elisabeth Agnes for the wonderful and beautiful childhood memories. My deepest condolences to Katherine and Justin and Betsy´s family.

I attended grammar school at OLPH with Betsy. Such a kind and caring person. Prayers lifted up for Kathy and family. May God be with you at this time.

Betsy, I have so many memories of you. You knew me before I was even born and helped my parents welcome me into this world with all the warmth and sparkle that you continued to possess and share with me and everyone else who was lucky to know you throughout the years. I'll never forget the first time you met TJ. I excitedly brought him to your booth in the French Market, and you did not hesitate to love him immediately and gave him a ring as a symbol of our love. You even got to witness our wedding! That is only one of so many memories. I remember as a young girl going to visit you with my parents during Mardi Gras and trying to speak Spanish with one of your lovely friends, who told me that my pronunciation was really good. To this day, I'm still trying to learn how to speak it, and I think you influenced that. I can't believe you're gone, Betsy. You were so beautiful to the very end, and I know that beauty lives on in your wonderful grown children, Justin and Katherine (Chappy). I'll never forget you and I'll always cherish the time we spent together.

I've known Elizabeth for over 40 years. I always loved her laugh and her smile, which always came from her heart.
