I don't know what made me look up Mr. Jackson (as my mom introduced him to me as) but I just wanted to leave a thought about him. Mama taught under him for years at Istrouma and she was always involved in grants and bringing things to the school.
Her first year she cried nearly every day coming home because she'd never taught at the high school level before and Mr. Jackson gave her the strength to keep going.
I never knew the names of her Principals before she was at Istrouma. I met him a handful of times and he was so supportive of the programs she wanted to implement. It was under his leadership that he gave her teacher of the year and his encouragement that she applied at the local (and won) and state level. Without him, she never could or would have.
I only knew him tangentially through mom but he was such a wonderful man for her to work for and obviously an amazing person. To his family, I'll never forget what he did for my mom, I'm so thankful that he was a part of her work-life and I feel like our family was better off as a whole because of it.

It´s been seven long years since we lost Tack. I think about him, and speak about him more than one would think. So many times when I meet people either from the Istrouma/Capitol area, or age appropriate educators, I ask if they knew Tack. Many, many did, and all refer to him in a positive light. I always refer to him as one of my best friends. I miss him. The world misses him. He was a tremendous positive influence on the young people who had the good fortune and pleasure of knowing him. Tack was 75 when he passed away. I am 75 now. Enjoy Heaven, my friend! I hope to join you one day!

We were deeply saddened to learn of Mr Jackson's passing today and missing his ceremony of life. Our daughter, Heather and we went to I.H.S. the summer of 1996 when she was going to be a Sophmore that Fall semester. Mr. Jackson welcomed us with open arms and assuring us she would be well taken care of, he was a man true to his word. Throughout her 3 years she made so many good friends and had great scholars that she continued her education and has a great career in I.T. when it all started as a class there at Istrouma Sr. High and Technology Magnet School.
After graduating in 1999 she continued stopping by her Alma Mater visiting Mr. Jackson and many teachers who made a huge impact on her life.
We Thank You Mr Elisha Jackson and God Bless you and your family for a job well done.

I often speak to my children of the very positive influence that Coach Jackson had on a wild young man in need of a positive strong Black man in his life. Coach was hard but you always knew he cared and he was fair, caring and always let you know that you were important. You showed a young man who probably was going in the wrong direction what it meant to be a Strong Black Man and I will be forever grateful. Thank you coach and may God bless

To the Jackson Family:
Mr. Jackson hired me for my first teaching job. He was the heart of the community and the school, inspiring many new, green teachers with the belief that empowered us to affect the lives of so many students both at Istrouma and in our current schools today. I will never forget him, for he inspired me to be the best teacher I could be, which in turn produced some of the best students in the world. Love, Lena Yokyongskul Burrows You will be dearly missed, Mr. Jackson. We love you!

I offer sincere condolences and gratitude to the family of the late Elisha Jackson who, in biblical terms, fought a good fight, finished his course and kept the faith. Mr. Jackson was a wonderful Christian man who exemplified our Lord. He was humble, caring, kind and courageous. When he had to stand alone, he did so boldly because of the love of God that he carried daily in his heart. At the end of the 2009 school year he gave all his teachers a book bag with their names engraved. He always wanted to give something back. So, today I as I sit lamenting as Jeremiah did in the days of old, I am remembering and giving thanks to God for all the sacrifices he made. The roll is being called. All he has to do is walk right in, sit down servant and rest a little while. The battle is no longer yours...it belongs to the Lord!

I have fought a good FIGHT, I have FINISHED my course, I have kept the FAITH: Henceforth there is LAID up for me a CROWN of RIGHTEOUSNESS, which the LORD, the RIGHTEOUS JUDGE, shall give me at that day ! Timothy 4:7-8 is the scripture that is most befitting of Coach Elisha Jackson. A man whom looked out for the well-being of others. He kept me out of trouble from our Principal Marvin Moose Steward, who was our Donald Trump at the time and FOUGHT on my BELHALF. Not knowing that Coach Leon McGraw was fighting for me as well. Mrs. Portia Jackson would always come over to Istrouma with Vonda and Alisha to support her husband anyway possible. Your family will be in my prayers. Coach Jackson as he was known by me and Tack as he was known by my Aunt and his classmate Alice Fleming-Williams.
I say to the family Coach Jackson was known by the world as a builder of men. Coach Jackson took boys and taught them how to be men. You never wondered if he cared, because you knew Coach Jackson was genuinely concerned with how you lived even after you moved on from IHS.
