Eliza "Alice" Herrera

Eliza (Alice) M. Herrera, 65, of Loveland, Colorado passed away September 6, 2011. She was born on August 28, 1946 in New Braunfels, Texas to Raymundo and Aurora (Cardenas) Rivera. She lived in Texas before moving to Colorado in 1951. Alice married Carlos S. Herrera on June 19, 1965 in Greeley, Colorado. They later divorced.

She was an employee of R2J District Head Start Program as a pre-school teacher for numerous years. She worked part time at a bi-lingual Head Start program for migrant children in Longmont. Alice attended St. John's Catholic Church. She was a member of Moose 1211 and was the Chaplain for 10 years. Alice was a member of the American Legion. Alice loved singing karaoke. She lived a long life of illness because of heart conditions. The Lord gave us two more precious years with our beloved mom after overcoming a near death heart operation at MCR in October 2009. We experienced a "Miracle". She was a fighter and a strong, beautiful woman! She will be missed….

Alice is survived by her mother, Aurora Rivera of Loveland, Colorado; son and daughters, Marina Nava (Reyes) of Loveland, Colorado, Myrna Herrera of Loveland, Colorado, Michelle Trujillo (Andrew) of Greeley, Colorado, Mariza Duncan (Stephen) of Boulder, Colorado, Carlos Herrera of Loveland, Colorado, Marianne Herrera of Loveland, Colorado; brothers and sisters, Emily Martinez of Denver, Colorado, Raymond Rivera, Jr. of Loveland, Colorado, Ray Rivera (Jackie) of Grand Junction, Colorado, Jack Rivera (Marie) of Arizona, Innocencio Rivera (Debbie) of Loveland, Colorado, Carmen Wood (Dan) of Longmont, Colorado, Dora Rivera of California, Pablo Rivera of Dallas, Texas, Andy Rivera of Denver, Colorado, Laurie Rivera of Johnstown, Colorado; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She also has 3 step children and numerous step grandchildren of Longmont.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymundo Rivera, Sr.; one sister, Gloria; and George Contrerez, who was her 20 year companion of Longmont.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:00 on Thursday, September 8 at Allnutt Funeral Service in Loveland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, at St. John's Catholic Church followed by a reception at the church.
