Elizabeth Anne Caldwell

Dear mother and good friend to many, Elizabeth "Liz" Anne Caldwell, age 89, passed away on June 15, 2017, in the warm sunshine of Sarasota, Fla. Alaska was her home for 62 years, but she needed a warm winter in her later years. Liz was born on June 2, 1928, to Thomas and Grace Jones in Dodge City, Kan. After finishing high school she moved to Richland, Wash., working at the Hanford Site. She met her husband, Harold, in Richland and quickly thereafter and moved to Alaska, where Harold worked for White Alice.
Liz was a devoted mother who had many careers after her children started school. She retired from the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources in 1993. She loved her life in Alaska, the beautiful scenery, wildlife, camping and she was especially proud of her Denali view out her living room window. She enjoyed playing bridge, completing New York Times crosswords in pen, drinking champagne, her Wednesday lunches with friends and crocheting. She loved giving afghans to everyone, and she loved her time with her grandchildren.
Liz is survived by her daughter, Kathi Caldwell and son-in-law, Barrie Pritchard; daughter-in-law, Deb Allen; granddaughter, Samantha Caldwell; and grandson Jagger Caldwell. Her son, Ken Caldwell, passed away in September of this year. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Jones; and sister, Evelyn Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Caldwell, who died in 1993.
A "Going Away Party" is scheduled for Liz and her son, Ken Caldwell, who passed only three months later. The "Going Away Party" will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at The Peppermill in Anchorage.
