1925 - 2016

Elizabeth "Betty" Grossman, 91, of Burlington, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Arbor View in Burlington.

Betty was born at home, in the town of Raymond on Feb. 11, 1925. She was the daughter of Richard and Margaret (nee Jung) Babe. She grew up in the Caledonia / Town of Raymond area and graduated from Union Grove High School.

On Aug. 19, 1944, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Caledonia, she was united in marriage to Robert Grossman. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. Bob preceded her in death on April 15, 1977.

Betty was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. Betty and Bob owned and operated Grossman's Grocery Store. Betty later worked as a receptionist at the Burlington Clinic for many years. She loved traveling around the world with her Senior Citizens' Group. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, baking, gardening, knitting and needlepoint. Betty was a kind, sweet and gentle soul. She was well loved by her family and many friends. Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her son, Gerald (Ara) Grossman; daughter-in-law, Joy Grossman; grandchildren, Robyn (Lance) Nowak, Maren (Matthew) Keeler, Adam (Mingming) Grossman, Christopher (Shirin) Grossman and Amanda Grossman. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Scarlet Keeler, Sadie Keeler, Sophia Keeler, Nick Nowak and Layla Grossman; siblings, William (Jean) Babe, Richard (Joyce) Babe, Carol (Loren) Barth and brother-in-law, William (Jean) Grossman along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jane Elizabeth Grossman; son, Thomas Grossman and brother, Robert (Rose) Babe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arbor View Assisted Living and Allay Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

Services for Betty will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home with Rev. James Volkert officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Cemetery with Rev. Kristin Rice officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice.
