My family were Miss Hammerschmitt's neighbors. We also had church friends in common, and I believe my father had been her student. She was kind, witty, and just a little eccentric in the nicest way. Her guidance helped me to make the decision to study music education at CMU. I will always have very fond memories of her.

Miss Hammerschmitt's love of life and love of music were infectious. I still remember her enthusiasm as she led us in singing up and down through the scales in 7th grade at West View Junior High School. Every note had her smile in it; she had a great time--and so did we!

Aunt Biz was one of the finest ladies I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I had the honor of spending a bit of every day with her these past 7 years, after my husband and I returned to Pgh. I will miss our outings, singing in the car, watching the clouds together, and seeing her clear smiling face. She became a best friend for whom I will always have the greatest respect and from whom I will always be learning.

As an unthinking teenage I never took the time to go back and thank my Jr High Music teacher, Miss Hammershcmitt for instilling and enhancing in me a love of music and singing this lasts to this day. As you become a member of the heavenly choir I hope you 'hear' and know this: "THANK YOU, MISS HAMMERSCHMITT!"

As a goofy teenager I never went back to Miss Hammerschmitt at West View Jr High and thanked her for instilling and enhancing in me a love of music and singing that lasts to this day. It's a little late & I can only hope as you join the heavenly choir that you know this: Thank you, Miss Hammerschmitt!

I also had Miss Hammerschmitt in the 60's at West View Jr High. I remember her teaching us Oklahoma and I can still remember her singing the part "June is busting out all over". She was putting her heart and sole into it. I still mention that to some of my friends.
