Higham, Beth Miree-Age 52, of Nashville, TN, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Beth was born to Mallory and Betsy Miree on October 2, 1959. Beth attended Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, AL and graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1981. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Beth was married to Joe Higham in 1985. They are the parents of three children-Catherine, Rob, and John. After graduating from Vanderbilt, Beth served as account executive at WSMV TV. In later years, she served as the program coordinator at the Dan Rudy Cancer Center at St. Thomas Hospital. Beth retired in 2006 and has since dedicated herself to the service of her community. She has been an active member of the boards for both the Nashville chapter of Komen for the Cure and the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition. She founded the Cancer Care Advisory Board for the Dan Rudy Cancer Center. She was a member of the planning committee for the Power of the Purse and involved in grant writing for Nations Ministry. Beth was also a member of the executive board for the Mother's Club at Montgomery Bell Academy and a member of the Parents and Family Association for Vanderbilt University. Beth loved being a mother and found great joy in raising her three children. Beth lived each day with grace, strength, and an unshakable belief that life was beautiful. Her capacity for love was immense and her kindness touched many. Her presence will be missed dearly, but her spirit, her love, and her service to this community will forever be a testament of the tremendous life Beth lived. Beth is survived by her husband, Joe Higham; her children, Catherine, Rob, and John Higham; her parents, Mallory and Betsy Miree; her sisters Jennifer Cope (Pat) and and Dorothy Mishoe (Monty); her mother-in-law, Marie Higham; her sister-in-law, Jean Higham; and her grandmother, Betty Goodykoontz. Visitation will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Jan 25 from 5:00-7:00. The memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Jan 26 at 11:30 with visitation preceding the service at 10:00. Memorials may be made to the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition, the Dan Rudy Cancer Center at St. Thomas, or the Nations Ministry Center.

Beth was a very good friend of mine in Junior High School. We spent a lot of time together. After I moved away, we lost touch, but I have thought of her often, even trying to get back in touch with her this past year. Please know that she made a difference in my life, and I am very saddened by her passing. My sympathy and prayers go out to her family. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember Beth so well as the kindest, most generous mom at the West Meade Swim Club. During the summers she spent every day there with her kids and always volunteered at meets and events. She also always made her children's friends feel extremely welcome in her home. I loved being around her. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the entire Higham family.

We're going to miss seeing Beth tending the beautiful flowers in her garden. She was so thoughtful to bring a bouquet to both Stephanie and Chelsea when they graduated from high school. Celebrating a life well lived while mourning the loss of a dear neighbor and friend. Prayers continue as you walk this journey of grief.
