ELIZABETH HOLMES Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 7, 2024.
OBITUARY NOTICE: ELIZABETH EARP HOLMES 05/01/1921 to 05/03/2024

Elizabeth Earp Holmes, best known to her friends as Pat, was born in Dodge City, Kansas on May 1, 1921 and passed away peacefully at home in Louisville on May 3, 2024, after celebrating her 103rd birthday two days before with family and friends.

She attended Albion College and over the years called Lima, Ohio, Birmingham, Michigan and Louisville, Kentucky her home.

Pat's husband William J. Holmes (Bill) passed away on January 15, 1994 in Birmingham, Michigan. And she is now survived by her two children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Volunteer work filled her life from her early years as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and then eventually the constant projects of her beloved First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Michigan to active involvement (her age never a concern!) in the projects and events of the Pewee Valley Woman's Club and Gilda's Club in Louisville.

Her home in Michigan was always a center of activity and abuzz with laughter and

excitement, not only for the enjoyment of her friends and extended family, but likewise for her two children's parties and friends. Hosting large Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners especially gave her joy. Life was always, "The more the merrier!" She radiated love and acceptance and would always bring forth a terrific smile and be ready with the best hugs.

An avid traveler, Pat enjoyed several international trips with family or church groups but really loved rounding up her grandchildren for trips on their themes - from Civil War battlefields and National Park adventures to shopping in London.

Pat was immensely grateful for the way she was welcomed to the Louisville community and for all of her new friends in Louisville - her neighbors, her daughter's friends, fellow members of the Pewee Valley Woman's Club, the wonderful staff and guests at Gilda's Club events, along with her doctors, her dentist, and her hair stylist.

It was Pat's wish when she turned 101 two years ago that there be no funeral or other formal remembrance, but she loved the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Michigan, loved the Pewee Valley Woman's Club, and was a gracious supporter of charities of all sorts - and would never discourage supporting any of these entities in her name.

A private family farewell will be held at a later date.

Pat was always one of the faithful workers at the First Presbyterian (Birmingham) rummage sales. She often regaled us with stories of her haircuts in Louisville. Blessings to all of you.
