Dear Dalton, David, and family. My mother (Marlene Best) spoke so fondly of your parents. She was so sad to hear of your dad years ago, and I know if she were alive today she would be reminiscing with a sad heart and remembering a fine friendship with them both. Kind wishes to you all.

I did not know Mrs. McGuinty. But I knew her husband Dalton Sr. briefly and, for a longer time, her son Dalton Jr. at Queen's Park. The Premier and I were a little alike, actually, the product of big Irish-Catholic families. We exchanged stories over the years about all that. Almost always, Dalton's stories included a reverent mention of his mother and what she had taught him. He was a loving son. His father gave him a name; but his mother was at least as important in instilling the right values. (Values, in fact, that I have tried to pass on to my own four sons.) The Premier loved and was grateful to both his parents and as devoted to family as a man could get. You did well, Mrs. McGuinty. Rest easy and Godspeed. Dear Family, I am saddened to hear of Madame McGuinty's passing. She was a most dedicated person, having lovingly cared for so many. It was always a pleasure to meet her at various events. She's now reunited with her Dalton for whom I also had much respect. Please accept my most heart-felt condolences.
