Elizabeth Newell Obituary
Born in South Kingstown, RI, on July 4, 1950 she was the daughter of the late Raymond Alfred and Helen Elizabeth (Blair) Beaudreau. And she was raised by the late Robert and Dorothy Lowry.
Betsy was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs and the University of Rhode Island. She taught for over 25 years at the Richmond Elementary School in Richmond, RI. She was a former Girl Scout Leader.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters; Shelby Worsham (Kevin) of Richmond, RI and Katie Guilbault (Lauren) of Stowe, VT. She was the loving grandmother of Haylee, Logan and Ethan. She was the sister of Polly Zegarzewski and Mark Beaudreau both of Richmond, RI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Chapel 437 Carolina Back Road Carolina, RI 02812. Betsy's family will greet relatives and friends, Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley, RI.
Donations may be made to Brandon Angell Memorial Fund, 4000 South County Trail, Charlestown, RI. 02813

Had Mrs Newell for kindergarten in 1979, still remember to this day playing with the big cardboard building blocks, sitting on the rug for story time and listening to the announcements hoping my name was placed under the rainbow. Also had the opportunity to camp with her and her family an wawaloam campground for many summers, always had a lot of fun. I am so sorry for your loss, the whole Newell family is in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Newell was my kindergarten teacher during the 1988-1989 school year. I still have vivid memories from her class - she was a wonderful teacher! I ran into her about ten years ago and she immediately remembered me and asked about my family. She was a special person who truly cared about her students. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

I was so sad to hear of Mrs. Newell's passing. I remember the day I walked into her kindergarten class for the first time. I felt welcomed, loved and I know now how truly blessed we all were to have had Betsy in each of our lives. To her family, prayers of peace and strength are being said for each of you. I was fortunate enough to have been a student in Mrs. Newell's 1976-1977 kindergarten class. To this day I vividly recall the day she taught me how to read. She was a wonderful educator and will be greatly missed.

I am so very sorry. I was very fortunate to have quite a long time to visit with Betsy while we were waiting very patiently at a doctor's office (for the same doctor). We had a nice long talk and I am so very glad to have that time with her. I will miss her.
