Elizabeth Dolores “Betty” O'Brien

GRANGER - Elizabeth Dolores O'Brien, 91, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, May 17, 2016. She was born January 19, 1925 to the late Farris and Julia (Tamber) Ackil.

On April 23, 1949, Betty married the love of her life, Joseph Francis O'Brien. He survives. Also left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan Davis of Granger; and two grandchildren, Dr. Nicole (Pete) Riordan and their two great-grandchildren, Nathalie and Claire Riordan, and a grandson Dr. Patrick (Marie) Davis all of South Bend.

After graduation from Central High School in 1943, Betty was employed at the Bendix Corporation as a draftsman throughout the WWII years. The University of Notre Dame Engineering Department trained her.

For years, she was a very active member of the Christ Child Society and enjoyed the sharing of care for others by that wonderful program. She also enjoyed the years of fun and friendships afforded by the Lil Joe Social Club. She followed her special artistic skills with the painting and creating of distinctive arts and crafts. Many of her signature Christmas Santas are still prized decorations in local homes. Betty touched the lives of many and we are all the better for it. She will be remembered as a talented beautiful lady full of love for her God, family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20th, from 4-8pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 7:30pm at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM also at the McGann Hay Granger Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
