Elizabeth Ragsdale Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2025.
Tellico Village Loudon - Elizabeth (Beth) Sullivan Ragsdale, age 80 of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, TNwent home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2025.

Born in Easton, Maryland on October 26, 1944, she was raised in Oxford, MD, a small peninsula town of 800, where life was very secure, relaxed, and care free. After graduation from high school at 17, this small town girl went to work in the big city of Washington, D.C. She began her government career working for the FBI in the ldent Division. After 5 1/2 years she transferred to the Navy Department as an Administrative Assistant, working her way up the government ladder to Security Specialist with the Office of Naval Intelligence, retiring in 1999.

During her time at the FBI she met her husband, William Hoyle Ragsdale, Jr. who was also employed there. They married in 1964 and lived in Waldorf, MD, until retirement. Hoyle, raised in Knoxville, wanted to move back to TN after retirement. Beth, not wanting to move from her MD friends and family, went "kicking and screaming" to Knoxville. In 2002 they moved to Tellico Village. Beth soon fell in love with beautiful east TN and was grateful and thankful for the move.

Not having the privilege of playing a musical instrument during her school years, she decided in her early 40's to play the French horn. She played in the Southern Maryland Concert Band. She was a member of church orchestras and handbell choirs in MD and TN until the summer of 2014, when Parkinson's disease forced her to stop playing. For 10+ years she loved volunteering as the Music Librarian for the Minister of Music, orchestra and choir at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village, where she attended.

Preceded in death by parents, I. Clifton Sullivan and Cecelia (Haddaway) Sullivan Smith and

brothers, John R. Sullivan and William C. Sullivan. Survived by her husband of 60years, William Hoyle Ragsdale, Jr. of Tellico Village; her son, Michael R. Ragsdale (Melissa) and her very special and much loved granddaughter, Sydney Ragsdale. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Jane Sullivan of Easton, MD and Ruth Sullivan of Oxford, MD; niece Stephanie Hunter (Jason), nephew Carter Sullivan (Kevan), and numerous cousins. Her prayer is that Christ be glorified.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village. Pastor Charlie Barnard will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Roane Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Hwy 27, 1-40 west, exit 347, then left 3.5 miles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
