Elizabeth Shannon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 9, 2016.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Shannon, 91, wife of the late James P. Shannon, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2016.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Napoleon P. and MaryAnn Cassie. Elizabeth, as her family and friends called her, attended the Salem Vocational High School in the early 1940's where she discovered her love for hard work and determination.

Her strong work ethic carried on throughout her life as she worked for the Western Electric Company which later became a part of Alcatel-Lucent, a French global telecommunications equipment company. She was determined in anything she did whether it was crafting embroidered pillow cases or taking on a new journey in her travels to Ireland and England.

A long-time resident of the city of Peabody until moving to The Woodlands, Texas in 2011, Elizabeth shared her life within the North Shore community. She was a proud member of the 42 Club in Beverly, and found joy in taking risks whether it was through a game of chance, cards or by playing Bingo with her friends.

Elizabeth will always be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring woman. She had an extraordinary way of making anyone feel special. She is survived by her sister Barbara Beavis of Texas and her many beloved nieces and nephews who she treated as her own children. In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Joseph Cassie, Victorine Page, Gertrude Marshall, Albert Cassie and Thomas Cassie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to VITAS Hospice Community Connections; 3131 Eastside Street, Suite 200, Houston, Texas 77098

I meet Betty through my friend Barabara and we became sweet friends. She was a sweet lady. Everybody liked her. She loved to come to our sewing group on Wednesday and have coffee with us. She will be missed by everyone.

She was one of the sweetest ladies ever. She over came many things in her life and will always be remembered as a true lady. She will be missed by the nieces and nephew who loved her as she did them. I will miss her smile.
