Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Sparks, 91, Seymour, passed away at 9:52 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Mrs. Sparks was a 1936 graduate of Shields High School. She worked at the Jackson County Visitor Center for six years. Throughout her life she tried to practice her Christian faith and professed her beliefs at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. She also was a member of Tri Kappa Associates and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Schneck Medical Center for more than 35 years and was a member of the Hospital Guild.
Born June 17, 1918, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of James and Charlotte Pleasants Beldon, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 8, 1941, in Seymour, she married Myron Eugene "Sparky" Sparks, who preceded her in death March 20, 1977.
Survivors include her two sons, James Hugh (Karen) Sparks, Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard Eugene (Trish) Sparks, Bloomington; grandchildren, Kristin Marie and Lauren Ann Sparks, Abraham Sparks, Bryan Sparks and Myra (Bill) Wright; great-grandchildren, Logan Dexter and Cooper William Wright; a sister, Nancy (Joe) Erp, Seymour; three nephews, Jeffrey Miller, Jon David Miller and James Beldon Erp; five nieces, Jane Graessle, Jennifer Kellner, Jodi Bieckman, Charlotte Tyree and Sarah McKenzie; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Beldon Jr.; a sister, Mary Charlotte Miller; and a brother-in-law, Hugh Sparks.
The Rev. Steve Cherry will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Hospital Guild of Schneck Medical Center or to the donor's choice.
