Elizabeth C. Twining

Elizabeth C. Twining 1916 - 2010 LONGMEADOW - Elizabeth Christine (Harty) Twining, 93, of the Glen-meadow Re tirement Commu-nity in Long-meadow and a former resident of Wilbra-ham, died on Tuesday July 6, 2010. She was born in Saxtons River, Vermont on December 24, 1916 the daughter of the late Edward and Flora Christine (McDonald) Harty and was a graduate of John Bapst High School in Bangor, ME and the Carney Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA. Elizabeth was employed for many years as a registered nurse and retired from the former Ludlow Hospital in Ludlow, MA. Upon her retirement, she volunteered her time at the Community Survival Center in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and the Open Pantry Community Services in Springfield. Elizabeth was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church in Wilbraham for almost 50 years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Twining who died on December 25, 1997; by a son, Edward H. Twining who died on May 6, 2008; and by her brother, Norman Harty. Elizabeth leaves her children, Timothy J. and his wife Roberta Twining of East Longmeadow, Kenneth J. and his wife Linda Twining of Princeton, NJ, Joseph P. Twining of Coronado, CA, Mary Elizabeth Grocott of Wilbraham, and Nathan F. and his wife Camille Twining of Longmeadow; her eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a sister in law, Gerry Harty of Bellows Falls, VT; and many extended family members and friends. Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 9, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Family and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday July 10, 2010 at 9 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 42 Main Street in Wilbraham. Private committal services will be held in St. Charles' Cemetery in Bellows Falls, VT.
