Elizabeth Urrutia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2017.
Cissy Urrutia passed away on August 27, 2017. She was born in 1945, attended Alamo Heights High School, and received her bachelor's degree in Art History from UT Austin. An avid artist and folk-art collector, Cissy was a vibrant, creative, exuberantly colorful woman who spoke her mind unequivocally and unapologetically. Her sense of humor was unparalleled. Cissy recently reflected on her life: "I've enjoyed a long and good life. Particularly over my 33 years of marriage to Bud Urrutia. I've been lucky to enjoy close friendships that date as far back as early childhood and the constant family ties that bind us together. My special gratitude to my husband, Bud, for his stalwart presence and to my children and brother for their care and concern." She is survived by her husband, Dr. A.A. "Bud" Urrutia; her children, Elizabeth "Liza" Atkinson and Katherine "Katy" Atkinson; her brother, Dr. John K. Wilhelmy and his wife, M'Lu and her nephews Christopher, Sean and Patrick; her step-children, Elise Urrutia and spouse, Mark Schlesinger and Adriene Wisenberg and spouse Sol Wisenberg; step-grandchildren, Noa Barenblat and Benjamin Barenblat. She is preceded by her brother, Lt. Bruce Wilhelmy; and her parents, Elizabeth "Lib" Kane Wilhelmy and Christopher B. Wilhelmy.

Bud, I was very sorry to read of Cissy's passing. In a way I am writing in place of my late sister, Linda Lee Davis, who was a dear old friend of Cissy's, and would be expressing her own feelings about this loss. In these later years for us, Bud, I well remember our playing together on Rosemary, so long ago. My best wishes to you as you go through these difficult times.

Such a wonderful friend for so many years. From time to time I "baby sat" Cissy when she was a teenager. And she was in my wedding. Bud, I'll miss her. Honey Inglish Shepperd
