When you took a course with Sister White, you knew that every class would be something to enjoy. Her Lit Survey class at Newton College in the 50's brought so many works to life for many of us. Sister White's enthusiasm for her subject as well as her students was a real force for our learning. We were freshmen and we needed that spark. She gave it to us and it is something I can never forget.
Many years later I told Sister White that because of her influence our daughter, Paula, was concentrating in English at Harvard. Sister White beamed her great smile, went up on her toes, threw her arms across her chest and said, "That makes me so happy".
My condolences to her sisters and my gratitude for her life.

Sister White was the brightest light in my 3 years at Newton Country Day School. Her ability to make Shakespeare come alive and make Latin a relevant language caused me to choose English as a major - which was the best decision I made in college. I will forever remember her smile, her influence, her intellect, her strength, her grace, her infectious enthusiasm, her love of teaching, her approachability and her genuine affection for her students. Sister White was the consummate teacher: count me as one who is most grateful to have been one of her students.

"Everywhere, we learn only from those whom we love." (Goethe)
...and Sr. White was so easy to love! It is no wonder we learned so well from her! I treasure my memories of Sr. White... in the classroom, in the halls, on the campus walkways, in the chapel... anwhere she could weave her golden threads of civility and kindness. May she rest in peace now, even as she fostered peace amid the turmoil and unrest that was the late sixties. My condolences to her family and to all who will miss her.
