Ellen Moore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2024.
Ellen Louise Schmitz Moore, born on November 12, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, in Winter Park, Florida, just shy of her 91st birthday. Adopted by George and Eleanor Schmitz, Ellen was raised alongside her sister Catherine in Racine, Wisconsin, before the family settled in Miami, Florida. Her father, a successful businessman, owned Arnold Electric Company, which he later sold to Hamilton Beach.

Ellen attended the University of Miami, where she met her beloved husband, James K. Moore. Together, they shared a deep Irish Catholic heritage and raised five children-Jim, Tom, Kathy (Will), John, and Kerrie (John)-instilling in them the values of faith and family. Ellen was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing her seven grandchildren: Kerrie, Donny, Tom, Billy, Brett, Chris, and Brooke, and six great-grandchildren: Carter, Hadley, Ollie, Henry, Cade, and Paisley.

A sports enthusiast, Ellen was a passionate supporter of the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed bowling, swimming, and biking. Her love for sports extended to her children's and grandchildren's activities, where she was a constant presence at their games and meets.

After James's passing in 1996, Ellen moved to Winter Park to be closer to her daughters. She remained active, joining a bowling team and volunteering at the local hospital until the age of 86. Ellen's zest for life was evident in her travels to Europe, which she visited 14 times, and her involvement in her church, St. Peter and Paul.

Ellen's unwavering faith and love for her family were the cornerstones of her life. Her selflessness, positivity, and dedication to those she loved will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
