Frohlich, Sondra
July 7, 1932 - August 6, 2011
For over 35 years, Sondra Frohlich has been a dynamo in community activities in the San Fernando Valley and provided leadership in volunteerism whether it is charitable causes, youth activities and programs, business development, or community betterment. She has long been known as the knowledgeable, go-to person in all things related to the valley and valley needs. She is the one who gets things done. Sondra's many volunteer activities include diverse and important causes such as President of San Fernando Valley Volunteers in Multiple Sclerosis and development of their VIMS Valley wide Fashion Show and fund raiser; President of the San Fernando Business and Professional Association and their Free Enterprise Awards Banquet; the Sylmar Women's Club and their scholarships and charitable activities; LA County Chairman of the Junior Republican organization; President of the Studio City/Sherman Oaks Rotary Club (twice), co-organizer and board member of the Rotary Club of Sherman Oaks Sunset; a founding member of the Studio City Improvement Association; member of the Board of Directors of the Sherman Oaks Hospital Foundation; a member of the Board of Directors of the Circle of Care Foundation; an officer in the Mid Valley Community Police Council and Involved in their fundraising and community outreach activities; member and officer of the Village at Sherman Oaks Business Improvement District; President of the Northridge Republican Women's Club; member of LA City Councilman Hal Benson's Land Use and Zoning Advisory Council and on a Citizens' Advisory Committee for Councilman Jack Weiss. The list goes on and on. One of the things to which Sondra is most dedicated and of which she is most proud is the North Valley Family YMCA, its activities and involvement with youth and their parents and the community. For over 28 years she has served on the Y's Board of Managers and twice as its chairperson. For her leadership and devotion to the Y and its program, Sondra was awarded the prestigious "Golden Book Award" by the Greater Los Angeles YMCA and presented the North Valley YMCA's "Life Time Achievement". Sondra recently retired as the Executive Director of the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce and has served in Chamber leadership capacities in Mission Hills, Sylmar and Studio City. As a resident of the San Fernando Valley for over 35 years, it goes without saying that Sondra was a volunteer in Brownies, PTA, Job's Daughters, and numerous parent committees while her children were young. She and her husband Drew tragically lost their daughter Donna to Breast Cancer and Sondra supports several cancer causes in her memory. Their son, William and his family reside in Maryland and she is a doting grandmother of a grandson named Kevin. Forest Lawn-Memorial Parks & Mortuaries.

After a number of years running the Studio City Chamber, Sondra moved on. She was immediately hired by the Sherman Oaks Chamber. She did a most professional job there. The SF Valley has not had such a talented chamber executive in many years. Under her leadership, the Studio City Chamber organized the most successful Christmas Parade in the valley. There was always Sondra introducing new people to existing members. Her wonderful people skills will be missed in Studio City and Sherman Oaks.
