Elmer H. Hemphill Jr.

HEMPHILL Elmer H. (Butch) Hemphill, Jr. age 68 entered eternal rest on Monday May 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sandra Herbert Hemphill, his two children, Timothy A. (Meghana) and Jennifer E., and his loving pet, Beaux Brees Hemphill. He leaves behind his siblings, Joyce Smith of Pass Christian, Ms., Patricia O'Connell of St. George Island, Fl., and Jerry Hemphill of Bay St. Louis, Ms. He is predeceased by his parents, Elmer H. Hemphill, Sr. and Sarah Q. Hemphill, and his sister, Valerie Passmore. He leaves behind numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. He will be remembered by his relatives and friends as a particularly caring, generous, and honest person. A native of Mississippi, Mr. Hemphill has resided in Metairie for the past forty years. He was in Biloxi High class of 1962, graduated from USM in Hattiesburg, Ms., was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and later was an Air National Guard. Mr. Hemphill was employed by Whitney National Bank for forty years, where he served as Senior Vice President until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Hemphill was a long term member of the board of the Louisiana Museum Foundation. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home (5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, NOLA 70124) on Thursday, May 9 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow for immediate family members. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff who served Mr. Hemphill over the past three years, and especially for the excellent care and services rendered by St. Joseph Hospice and St. Teresa's Hospice during his final days.
