Elmo Bowman, 76 of Bristol, TN and originally of Fancy Gap, VA, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City, TN. Elmo is a retired U.S. Army Veteran serving five terms in Vietnam. While serving in the military he received several medals. After his retirement from the military, he drove 20 years for over the road vehicles.
Elmo was the son of the late Mayhew and Emma Weddle Bowman. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Carroll, Haywood, and Gary Bowman and three sisters, Iris Gardner, Christine Webb and Anna Ruth Martin.
Surviving are his son, James Stephen Bowman of Tulsa, OK; daughters and sons-in-law, April Dawn Mills and Frank of Clarksville, TN and Lisa Ann Skipworth and Edd of Elkton, KY; nine grandchildren, Rosie and Daisy Bowman of Alabama, Lindsey and Ike, Ashely S. and Kelsey S. all of Kentucky, and Bradley Stewart, Tex Commer and Sean Mills all of Clarksville, TN; four great-grandchildren, Kinley D., Brantley Skipworth of Kentucky and Jerimiah Bowman and Julia Bowman of Alabama; brother, Donald Bowman of Hillsville, VA; sisters, Dorothy Quesinberry of Fancy Gap, Vera Dawn Vinson of Bristol, TN and Lilly Webb of Hillsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady at 11:00 AM with Pastor JoAnn Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnnadmcgrady.com.
