John & Elaine Lichtenwald
July 18, 2010
The Lichtenwald family was joined by over 400 close relatives and friends on July 17,2010 to celebrate the life of Elsie. She had a special relationship with everyone she touched. Her smile, tenderness and faith will be missed by all. Her peaceful and content warm smile put all at ease before she was layed to rest at Woodlawn Cemetary alongside her son Steven who passed before her. The Lichtenwald family thanks everyone who attended and all the well-wishers for their thoughts and prayers. As the McCallum family said "Elsie was an Angel on earth and now she is everyone's Gardian Angel watching over us in Heaven".
Thank you Mom for everything you taught us and a special thank you to introducing us to our faith that you lived daily.

Dear Mary Jane and family: I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a wonderful lady. It was always a pleasure to bump into her and have a little chat. Though those were few and far between, they are very memorable. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love,

To Uncle Avin and to you guys (cousins), so sorry hear about Auntie Elsie. I know she was very a beautiful person, and did so much for her family. I remember the good times with you guys, when I did make it there. I always remember this family in my heart.

Mom (Theresa Buzik nee Gelowitz) fondly remembers playing cards at Elsie's and one particular occasion when Elsie made a chiffon cake so light it was heavenly. I remember speking with Elsie on the phone last year when she called us in Calgary and extended a very sweet thank you for the family tree information and photos we sent to her. We both remember seeing Elsie's bright smiling face at so many family events. We were very shocked to hear of her death and wish to extend our most heartfelt sympathy to all family and friends.

To the entire Lichtenwald family, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all. There are so many great memories of growing up together as friends and neighbors from our old Albert Avenue days. Not only will I remember your Mom for her incredible cinnamon buns and Chocolate Drops (I still have the recipe from when I originally wrote it out back then!) but I'll especially remember her for her quiet strength and kindness always. Please know that you're all in my thoughts during this difficult time.

Dear Cathy
I have fond memories of the large "Lichtenwald family", as we were growing up. You and your brothers were tons of fun. Not alot of that old fashion type neighborhood play happens much anymore. I send my deepest condolences to you and your family, at this difficult time.

My sincere sympathy to all of the Lichtenwald family on the loss of your wonderful wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma. Although I saw her rarely in recent years, she was always gracious and kind and I will remember her fondly. Take comfort in knowing that many are thinking of you at this difficult time and know she is with God.

I don't need to say what a shock it was to here about Auntie. We don't get home very often anymore, but, were lucky enough to see her on our last trip when she joined us for a BBQ at Pike Lake. Chris and I also got to spend a little time with her at her new home. Our lives have spread us out all over the place but I will always have great memories of the Barrel playhouse, annette's stories of Inky and picnicing with both our families at Jubilee Park.
We will see you friday.

To Alvin and the entire Lichtenwald family we would like to extend our prayers and thoughts to you during this difficult time. I have wonderful memories of growing up across the street from the Lichtenwald's, from our air band shows we forced our mom's to watch to the amazing aroma of fresh baked bread and buns in Elsie's kitchen. She was simply put, a true mother and mother is just another name for love.
Unfortunately I will be out of the country and will be unable to attend the service. Please know that we are with you in thought.
