ELSIE A. MAURER age 96 Of Sidney, formerly of Anna, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 4:20 P.M. at the Ohio Living Dorothy Love of Sidney. She was born on December 7, 1920 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to the late Edward and Emma (Oellerman) Johns. On April 20, 1941 she married Edward F. Maurer in Kettlersville, and he died on January 30, 2006. She is survived by her four children and their spouses Dale (Naomi) Maurer of Anna, Judy (Dave) Wilber of Huron, Jerry (Ginny) Maurer of Kettlersville, and Carol (Randy) Wentz of Kettlersville. Also surviving are her twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way. Along with her husband and her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by a brother Herold Johns. Elsie was a long-time member of Immanuel Church in Kettlersville, where she was active in the Women's Guild, and helped to prepare meals for various church functions over the years. She had been a housekeeper when she moved to this area in 1937, which was how she met her husband Edward. She was a school cook at Kettlersville School for many years, and was a hard working partner on the family farm. As a homemaker, she was known for her great cooking. She had a passion for music, and could often be found sewing, knitting, crocheting, or reading. She loved animals, was a member of the Shelby County Holstein Association, and liked to go fishing with her husband. Funeral Services to honor her life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Church in Kettlersville, with Pastor Ed Rinehart officiating. Interment will follow in the Schwaberow Cemetery near Kettlersville. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. I am a granddaughter of Amelia and Aerney Tangeman residents of Easy Street, Kettlersville until the early 1950's, and also a niece of Elaine and Merlin Tangeman, formerly of Kettlersville, and Dorothy Love Retirement, where I saw and talked with your dear mother during a visit with Uncle Merlin about 3 years ago. I have fond memories of attending Sunday school at Immanuel Church when we visited Grandma and Grandpa Tangeman. Perhaps your mom was one of my teachers. I am certain that your mom was a caregiver for the Tangemans as their health declined. Just know that I admired your mother even though I barely knew her. She will be greatly missed.

May the love of God, family and friends be of comfort.

Barbara
