Bud Gaudig
"Dear Old Pa"
Bud passed away on December 18, 2016, age 77. He suffered for many years with type two diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Elbert Harry Gaudig (Bud) was born on May 1, 1939 in Cripple Creek, Colorado to Elbert N. and Thelma Beale Gaudig, and was the oldest of three sons. During childhood his family followed mining work in central Colorado. In the late 1940s, the family moved to Bud's grandfather's farm located approximately twenty miles southwest of the farming community of Miller, South Dakota.
In 1956 the family moved to Rapid City in search of work as the farm was not profitable. Bud graduated from Rapid City high school in 1957 and joined the United States Navy in early 1958. After basic training in San Diego, he was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet completing his military obligation in 1962. In 1962 Bud was offered a job by AT&T in Salt Lake City, which developed into a thirty year career in the telecommunications industry with AT&T, Mountain Bell, and US West (now Century Link). After retirement he joined the engineering consulting firm of Mid State Communications in Nephi, Utah.
Bud joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962 and served in a number of callings, including Elders Quorum President, Ward Clerk, Executive Secretary, and ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. In all his callings, he gave his best.
In 1972 he married Glenda Moore in the Salt Lake Temple. Bud is survived by his wife Glenda of forty-four years, children, Christopher, Meredith (Tim) Anderson, Rachel Moody, Lindsay Monroe and Leah (Tim) Bird, seven grandchildren, Taylor Anderson, serving in the Washington Federal Way Mission, Makenzie Anderson, Corah Moody, Jaxon Bird, Zoe Monroe, Van Bird and Gwen Bird, brother John Gaudig, sister-in-law Ann Gaudig and niece Stephanie Nabity. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Jay, son-in-law Jeff Donnelson and dear friend Wally Price.
Bud was generous to a fault, and provided service to anyone in need.
