Emaline Bluth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 5, 2003.
Emaline Pratt Bluth, age 89, of Mapleton, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2003 in her daughters home, of conditions incident to age. She was born the first day of Spring, March 21, 1914, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rey Lucerio and Mary Stark Pratt. She married Virgil R. Bluth in El Paso in 1933. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death in March of 1999.

Emaline was the devoted mother of nine children: 6 boys and 3 girls. She spent her life loving them and supporting all of their endeavors. She was an accomplished seamstress and made doll clothes as a child, and clothes for herself and her sisters as a teenager. She made eleven wedding dresses for family and sewed thousands of costumes for her sons theatre. Along the way, she shared her love for life, for beautiful things, and for her family. She compiled a small, paper cookbook for each of us with the recipes that were wrapped around our lives. Late in life she learned to spin and weave and loved her group of "spinner friends". Mom loved the Lord and served Him in many capacities: Relief Society President, Primary President, Teacher, work director. She knew how to work and how to serve.

She is survived by her children: Bob (Jeanne) Bluth; Don Bluth; Fred Bluth; Sam (Tish) Bluth; Jim Bluth; Suzanne (Kent) Robertson; Brad (Laurie) Bluth; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Two infant daughters preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton White Church at the corner of Main and Maple Street in Mapleton, Utah. There will be a viewing held Sunday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville; and at the church, one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.

The family requests that no flowers be sent.

I grew up knowing the Bluth family in Mapleton. The older sons were my age and we did a lot of things together. Mrs Bluth was an excellent cook and made wonderful cookies. She also came from a very musical family and encouraged her children to be musical. Her brother Sam Pratt played flute in the Utah Symphony Orchestra and Louise Pratt, his wife, played the harp. I remember the extreme joy when Suzanne was born; the boys finally had a sister, their previous sisters having died as infants.
