Emerson Elwood Lewis1936-2007 SANDY HOOK - Our beloved Emerson Elwood Lewis, 71, of Brown Ridge in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, went to be with our Father, the Lord and Savior, October 22, 2007 at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center after an arduous and heroic battle with cancer. Emerson was born March 29, 1936 to his loving parents. Biggie Milford and Verlina Fraley Lewis, in Newcombe, Kentucky, where he spent his childhood days working and enjoying the great outdoors with his family, Emerson loved to hunt and share stories of the land. He took great pride in sharing these traditions with family. Emerson was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Concord Enterprise Baptist Church where he has attended services with his family and friend while sharing his love of the Lord for many, many years. His commitment to his faith was outstanding. Despite our pain, our loss here on Earth is truly Heaven’s gain. Over the years, Emerson became highly talented with his hands and imagination. He was a creator of all things wooden. Emerson took great joy in the things he could craft with his hands from finished wood or the raw pine knots he would find in the woods. He was a retired member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 723 of Prestonsburg, KY in 1966; Local 2408 of Xenia, OH from 1967 to 1971; and Local 472 of Ashland, KY from 1971 to 1995. Perhaps most importantly, Emerson was a strong family man who made no attempt to hide the love he felt for his family. He was a son, a husband, a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the greatest man we ever knew. In addition to his parents, Emerson was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Gay Lewis Roe; 4 sisters, Lena Thornberry, Edna Boggs, Lizzie Boggs, and May Gilliam; and one brother, Noah Lewis. Living in his glorious memory are his wife of 46 years, Emma Sue Whitley Lewis of Sandy Hook, KY; two daughters, Tammey Sue and Jackie Lewis of Grayson, KY, and Connie and B. Scott Ingram of Morehead, KY; one son, Bobby G. and Melissa Lewis of Olive Hill, KY; 6 grandchildren, Jasmyne R.Lewis of Grayson, KY, Jared D. and Sara Lewis of Grayson, KY, Korey S. Ingram of Morehead, KY, Nikkita M. Roe of Sandy Hook, KY, Cody G. Ingram of Morehead, KY and Tanner S. Lewis of Olive Hill, KY; one great grand daughter, Aliya J. Lewis of Grayson, KY; 5 sisters, Bessie and Edwin Salyers of Piketon, OH, Ivory Dickerson of Grafton, OH, Alice Leadingham of Grayson, KY, Monnie Thornberry of Sandy Hook, KY, and Goldie and Lional Dickerson of Sandy Hook, KY; and 3 brothers, Edwin and Sue Lewis of Sandy Hook, KY, Clyde and Myrtle Lewis of Sandy Hook, KY, and Junior and Shirley Lewis of Olive Hill, KY. No matter how great our pain, our sorrow, or our grief, we can see Emerson standing up in Gloryland, his skin smooth, and his back straight and tall. We know that he can see us we each hear him answer when we call. For in our hearts Emerson will never die. He will be here with us to the end. This is our goodbye, until we meet again. A funeral was held Thursday at Lewis and Ferguson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
