Emery D. Hillman, 81, of Oelwein, Iowa died Saturday evening, February 11, 2017 at his home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Maynard, Iowa with Rev. John Kerr officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 9:30 A.M. Thursday at the church.
Public Masonic Service: 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home by the Hebron Masonic Lodge #374 A.F. & A.M of Oelwein.
Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his name to First Presbyterian Church or St. Croix Hospice.

Emery Dwight Hillman was born October 20, 1935 at Independence, Iowa the son of James Dwight and Katie Mae (Duckett) Hillman. He graduated from Hazleton High School in 1953. On July 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joan Ruth Allen at the Stanley Union Church in Stanley, Iowa. Emery farmed for 30 years in the Hazleton and Stanley area. Along with farming, he was a custodian and bus driver for Oelwein Community Schools. He later drove semi for Larry Hurd, Maynard Coop and Burco Farms. For 19 years, he was a volunteer firefighter for the Hazleton Fire Department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Maynard, Solomon Masonic Lodge #594 of Lamont and Eastern Star of Lamont, where was serving as Worthy Patron in 2017. Emery enjoyed playing dominoes, flower gardening, going to the Wapsie Valley Produce Auction and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Emery is survived by his wife: Joan Hillman of Oelwein; 4 children: Marvin (LaVelle) Hillman of Winthrop, Marian (Duncan) Mallam of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Michael (Pat) Hillman of Oelwein and Mark (Rita) Hillman of Stanley; 10 grandchildren: Ashlea, Emilea, Brooke, James, Katie, Eddy, Meagan, Melissa, Nathaniel and Izak; 11 great grandchildren: and 1 sister: Grace (Eldon) Abben of Evansdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Donald Hillman at infancy and Dale Hillman; and 2 sisters: Francille Sorge and Gladys Weber

So sorry to hear of Emery's passing.He was always the first to pitch in and lend a hand and wouldn't quit til the job was done. I pray our heavenly father grants this fine man the eternal rest he so richly deserves.
