Emily Louise Allen

Emily Louise Allen, age 97, of The Dalles, OR, passed away on July 7, 2023. She was born on April 28, 1926 in Ballard, Washington to Frank and Louise Johnson Jenkins. Emily was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who embraced each family member as a unique individual. She was a lifelong volunteer, dedicated to the spirit of service, who played many roles in her church and a variety of community organizations in Cave Junction, Oregon, and Redmond, Oregon.

Emily was a strong, independent woman with a good sense of humor. She loved God, and was immensely proud of her Norwegian heritage as well as being a Washington Husky. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank and James Jenkins, and her husband of 68 years, James Allen.

Emily was a graduate of the University of Washington and had a fulfilling career as both a homemaker and an elementary and secondary school substitute teacher for over 40 years. Her dedication to education and nurturing young minds left a lasting impact on her community.

Emily worshipped at Immanuel Methodist Church in Cave Junction, Oregon, Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond, Oregon, and Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles, Oregon.

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Joy (Robert), Mary Beth Thouvenel (Bob), Nancy Allen, and Peggy Schlinger (Daniel), along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 1113 SW Black Butte Blvd. in Redmond, Oregon, on Saturday, September 9, beginning at 11:00 am PT. The service will be broadcast by the church for those unable to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either of her church homes in Redmond and The Dalles, both named Zion Lutheran Church, or to a charity of your choice.
