EMILY L. (THOMPSON) BLANEY BETHLEHEM, NH -- On Christmas morning, Emily L. (Thompson) Blaney, age 79, left this world to join her husband in heaven. She had recently left her family home after 60 years to live in a bright, sunny apartment at the Beattie House in Littleton. Unfortunately, she took a bad fall and broke her hip at the beginning of December. Complications set in and she succumbed to pneumonia. She leaves her daily companion, Lady, a sweet little 5lb Yorkie dog. Em, as her friends knew her, took care of everyone. At the age of 10, her mother, Anga (Pilbro) Thompson died. For the next 9 years, she cared for her father, Roland Thompson and 3 brothers, cooking and cleaning like only she could do. She went to work for New England Telephone as a telephone operator at the age of 16 while still attending high school. In 1949, she met and married George Blaney, the love of her life. In her work with New England Telephone, she held a variety of positions until the office in Littleton closed in 1975. Later, as a bank teller, she broadened her collection of friends and acquaintances until 1989. When George retired that year, so did she. They continued to lead a simple life together on their beloved Mt. Agassiz, enjoying their family and friends until his death in 1991. While she found it hard to go on after Georges death, she pulled herself together and did what she had always done; continued to take care of all of her family and friends; baking her famously rich chocolate cakes and banana bread to give to those she loved, all the while dispensing advice, unconditional love, and an occasional rebuke when she felt it was necessary. Some of Ems earthly loves included: any party, dancing with George, playing the piano, a good bad joke, and watching Tiger Woods. She loved a good lobster roll, fresh garden vegetables, walnetto candies and her beloved hummingbirds. Emily is survived by her son, Scott Blaney and his wife Carol who live in Kansas with their two children, Nathaniel and Rebecca. Daughter Georgia and husband, George Caron, live in Stark, NH. They have 3 sons; Bill Caron and his wife Kim live in Harrisonburg, Virginia with their three children, Michael, Jessica, and Elizebeth. Ben Caron lives in Haverhill, MA with his wife, Stephanie and son, Joey. Glen Caron and his wife, Karen live in Deerfield, NH. Son, Bruce Blaney, lives in Bethlehem with his wife Jody. Their son Nicholas and his wife, Zanna live in Suncook, NH. Emily also is survived by one brother, Roland Thompson, his wife Joan, and their two children, David Thompson and Sherry Fenoff, in Littleton, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Hospice of the Littleton Area, Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561. SERVICES -- A celebration of Emilys life for family & friends will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, from 1-4 pm at the Maplewood Casino in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.
