Emily Browning Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2006.
Emily Ann Bryant Browning, born on August 25, 1917, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2006. Born and raised in San Antonio, she was the daughter of Lydia and Henry Bryant. Her father owned the S. A. Buick Co. for many years. She was a cousin of Col. William B. Travis, defender of the Alamo and was related to Chief Justice John Marshall. Her grandfather, Walter C. Moore of Houston, was prominent in the development of the oil and rice industries of South Texas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Col. John Whitelaw Browning, a multi-generational West Point graduate who served in World War II. Adoring wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by her sister, Lydia Bryant Test; two daughters, Joan Browning Stratton and her husband, Cary; and Bryant Browning Monnig; four grandchildren: Hunt Winton and his wife, Kim; Emily Winton Waltmon and husband, Scott; Hettie Monnig Weber and husband, Lee; Annie Monnig Bruch and husband, Jason; and nine great-grandchildren. She was a member of the San Antonio Country Club, the Argyle, The Battle of Flowers Association, Timely Topics Club, Fenwick Club and several other social and civic clubs. Very special to her heart were the Colonial Dames and the Â"Friday FriesÂ", her luncheon group consisting of lifelong friends. The family is especially grateful for the loving care given her by Edith Ray, her constant companion, Phyllis Lott, Christy Pines, Christine Dowe, Cheryl Thompson, Karin Seabrook and Mary Broner, who enabled her to continue an active life.
