I am so sorry for all the Lattimores. It's a huge loss. I remember Emily well from ages ago. I kept up with her magnificent poetry. Her words and images were magnificent--supple and wise.
My first memory may be of her father, Mr. Lewis, explaining Renoir to me and a little thing: Clare's birthday was September 8th? That may be a fickle fugitive memory, however. I recall wonderful music, fantastic literature, and thick delicious soups from the Bishop Street days.

I remember Emily from a time when I was young and had no idea how to be a good person. She was always very kind to me. Her family was wonderful, and all of the children were so amazing! I am happy for her that she had such a vibrant life. She definitely has influenced mine!

You were always around on the island during the summer when I was growing up there. Remember you well. Sad to see memories like this fade. My sympathy to your family.
