Emily Ruth Munson

Emily Ruth Munson, 18, of Galveston, Texas, died on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, in an automobile accident. She was traveling with her dear friend, Austin Spurgeon, who also passed away. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. until service at noon, officiated by the Rev. Bert Baglely of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church in Galveston. Burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Emily was born on Jan. 16, 1990, in Baton Rouge to George William Munson Jr. and Kerrie Ruth Roubique Munson. She was a 2008 graduate of Ball High School in Galveston and was scheduled to attend the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco in the fall. She loved the arts and fashion and had chosen a career path in the fashion industry. Emily had many friends. She was very involved in school and church activities. She was a member of Ball High School Student Council; enjoyed surfing, and her job at Ben and Jerry's. She cherished being able to visit and travel with her large extended family. Emily was preceded in death by her grandparents, George William Munson Sr. and Emily Black Munson and Kenneth and Ruth Roubique. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Kerrie and Larry Highley, of Galveston; father and stepmother, Bill and Lou Munson, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Marie Guerin, of Houston, Adele Guerin, of Galveston, Laura Kirby and Linda Hudnall and husband Brian, all of Baton Rouge, and Michelle Trapen and husband Mark, of Hammond; brothers, Trey Munson and wife Tracy, of Richlandtown, Pa., Ryan Highley and wife Kendra, of Flower Mound, Texas, J. Chad Highley and Morgan Highley and wife Christina, all of Oklahoma City, John Lowman and wife Rhonda, of Brusly, Steve Lowman and wife Nancy, of League City, Texas, and Wesley Lowman and wife Angel, of Smithdale, Miss.; aunts, Ann Ball and husband Tom, of Metairie, Vicki Sing and husband Keith, of Baton Rouge, Rhonda Martinez and husband Joe, of Metairie, Laura Gleason and husband David, of Baton Rouge; and uncle, Don Munson and wife Joey, of Coppell, Texas; and stepgrandfather, George Pearce, of Baton Rouge; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
