EMMA WEAVER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2017.
Emma Josephine Weaver (née Sims) died peacefully at home in Alexandria, Virginia, on February 15, at the age of 90.
Born on July 13, 1926, in Atlanta Georgia, Jo was the daughter of Howard Brooks Sims, Sr., and Loy Sims (née Connell) and the beloved wife of the late Vonda Weaver. She is survived by her brother, Howard Brooks Sims, Jr.; four sons, Robert Weaver, Christopher Weaver, Keith Weaver, and James Weaver; nine grandchildren, Jordan Weaver, Tyler Weaver, Marie Markey, Bradley Weaver, Carrie Weaver, Julia Weaver, Sarah Weaver, Allison Weaver, and Amanda Weaver; and one great grandchild, William Markey.
Jo's Christian faith was the center of her life, guiding her through the roles of military wife, mother of four children, and active participant in her church. She attended Emory University and later transferred to North Georgia College. Upon graduation in 1948, Jo taught high school English. Once married, she dedicated her life to volunteer service as the family moved from and to numerous military duty locations. Over the years, she served as a volunteer nursing aide, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, and English as a second language instructor.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, at Braddock Baptist Church, 6519 Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia, with a brief reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Dr. Timothy Corder, Senior Pastor, will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jo's life. A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, at https://www.macular.org/how-donate.
