Celebration of the life of Emory Clifton Camp, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale, Texas.
Mr. Camp was born April 8, 1939, in Cameron, Texas, to Emory B. and Essie McCall Camp.
He graduated in 1957 from Yoe High School in Cameron and the University of Texas in 1962. He was licensed to practice law in September of 1965 and joined the Camp family law practice in that same year.
Emory and Connie Herbert, his beloved wife of 45 years, were married on December 28, 1962. Together, they raised three children.
In addition to his legal practice, he served on numerous local boards of directors, including serving as president of the Rockdale ISD Board of Education for more than 16 years. During this time, he was instrumental in the vision and construction of Rockdale Junior High School. As president and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rockdale Hospital Authority, he chaired efforts to secure funding to bring Rockdale Richards' Memorial Hospital. For years, he remained dedicated in service to the hospital and the medical services it provided Rockdale residents. Mr. Camp served on the board of directors for both the Rockdale State Bank and Citizens National Bank. He was on the boards of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Rockdale Country Club, the Southern Milam County United Way and the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and Milam County Bar Association. In addition, he was an active member of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from 1965-1975 and was an honorary lifetime member. In 1987, he was honored as Outstanding Citizen by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Kyle McBee of Rockwall; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Greg Wright of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Emory D. and Kristen Camp of Dallas; grandchildren, Katherine and Payden McBee, Jordan and Meredith Wright, Emory E., Ashley and Kaitlyn Camp; sister, Kay Johnston of Knoxville, Tennessee; and brother, James Camp of Cameron, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale.
The family will accept visitors from 6-8 p.m. this evening, May 7, 2008, at Phillips and Lucky Funeral Home in Rockdale, Texas.
