I’m Free

Don't grieve for me for now I'm free.  I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard His call.  I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, or play.  Tasks left undone must stay that way.  I found peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. O yes, these things too, I will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.  My life's been full I savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.  Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.  Lift up your hearts and peace to thee... God wanted me now.  He set me free.

Eric or “Eddie” as my mom would call him (I didn’t know his name was Eric until I was in my 20s) was a force to be reckoned with. He was always kind to me and I will never forget two poignant moments in my life where he really made a difference. I was having a rough patch with my dad in my teens and he pulled me aside and said.. “your dad made some mistakes, but he did the best could, and the best he knew how at the time with you”. That resonated with me and made me pivot with my dad and my relationship with him is now as strong as ever. And after Steve, my partner in life at the time, died in a tragic car accident, Eric allowed me and my best friend to stay in his apartment in Jersey City, so that I could do my farewell journey and begin the long process of healing from that hurt. I will never forget what he did for me, for my family. May he rest in peace in heaven. He made a lasting mark on this earth. Godspeed Uncle Eric.

I'm sorry for your loss.” “My deepest sympathies to you and your family.” “Words can't describe how sorry I am for your loss.” I am at a loss too because I considered him to be like family, he was a great friend. I have fond memories of Eric he was very good to me and forever will be in my heart.
