Eric Nesbitt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2017.
Eric Nesbitt, proud Vietnam war veteran, master electrician, builder of structures around the world, avid sailor and visionary died quietly on Wednesday.

He spent six months out of every year sailing the globe on his 50 foot ketch with his intrepid first mate Ann by his side. Eric loved his adventurous life and could regale you with his stories for hours on end.

Eric survived a helicopter crash, agent orange, broken bones, cancer, radiation treatment, and multiple falls from tall buildings. Yes, we thought he was Superman and never dreamed of losing him - he was invincible. Alas, we were wrong.
He enjoyed good tequila, Bob Dylan's music and making people smile. He squeezed every bit of life out of the years he was here with us. He will be greatly missed.

Eric is survived by his devoted wife Ann, his brothers Al [ Claudia ] and Todd Nesbitt, multiple nieces and nephews, and friends from around the world.

There will be a military tribute followed by a memorial luncheon on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017. Please contact family for details.Arrangements under the direction of Resurrection Funeral Home, Clinton Township, MI.

Went through the Electrical Apprenticeship with Eric. Worked and rode together when the Renaissance Center in Detroit was first being built. He even let me stay with him for a few months in 77-78 in his big old house in East Detroit (Eastpointe). I remember his great sense of humor and love of Bob Dylan. We would sometimes greet each other, saying "Hi....I'm Bob Dylan" in that gravelly Dylan voice. We kind of lost touch for a while but did get together briefly while he was in Cardiff-By-The-Sea. Saw each other a couple times when he came back to Michigan. From there we drifted apart as families sometimes cause one to do. I am so sad to hear of his passing, but I'm also happy to find out the he achieved his longtime dream of sailing around the world. Eric was a great guy who was always propping people up whenever they were down. We seemed to be laughing all the time. I'm sad to hear that he's no longer around to tell his stories but happy to know that his memory is always in our hearts. I'm sorry that I took so long to add this, my old friend. Happy Trails, Earache.

The first time we met Eric and Ann was in Holiday Oceanview Marina, also fondly known as Hotel California, because every cruiser who tried to leave to go sailing ended up coming back right away with some issue with the boat! We remember each day walking down the dock and passing the boat, which was stored while they were gone for longer time than they normally left it. Each time we passed, we'd admire the two newly galvanized anchors hanging on the bow and remark how shiney they alwas stayed. Finally one day we saw some folks we never met before standing next to Temerarius talking excitedly. A rat had stowed away on board and was wreaking havoc everywhere! Welcome back, Ann and Eric! Ah, life on a boat! Always an adventure.

Do you remember when Temerarius and Shanghaied made their longed-for departures from OceanView? It was a beautiful day, and such freedom of blue sky and calm water on the way down to anchor at the south end of Samal somewhere...And then the next morning, coffee, and Eric following every avenue to solve the auto-pilot mis-behaviour including a satphone conversation with New Zealand, and Shanghaied getting water in the saildrive oil thanks to a solitary floating coconut palm branch so finally we ended up together back in our familiar berths! It was always good sharing with Eric and we will miss him
