Eric Maurice Varnado

Eric Maurice Varnado, 53, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away, on April 12, 2023, at his home. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on January 25, 1970, the son of the late Paul Varnado of Raymond, MS, and Linda Dossett of Petal, MS.

Eric attended and graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia. He went on to become a member of the United States Air Force and served in the Gulf War with the 354th Fighter Wing (Myrtle Beach AFB).

Eric spent his career in law enforcement, working with the Laurel Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff's Department, and the Ocean Springs Police Department.

Some of his happiest times were those camping at Flint Creek with his friends Gene and Regina Dufrene. Eric was a collector of firearms of all types. He enjoyed hunting, especially at the Old Place in Poplarville. He very much enjoyed aviation, small planes, and learning to fly. His German Shepherd, Rommel, gave him great joy and emotional support for the last several years.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents; son, Reece Varnado; and brother, Tyler Varnado.

Eric is survived by his daughter, Valerie Reid of Seminary, MS; stepfather, Bobby Dossett of Petal, MS; stepmother, Kathy Varnado of Jackson, MS; brothers, Dennis and wife, Pam Varnado of Bossier City, LA; Lane and wife, Rhea Dossett of Hattiesburg, MS, Jason and wife Michelle Varnado of Hattiesburg, MS; granddaughters, Madilyn Reid and Rosalie Bell of Seminary, MS; and a host of other relatives and friends.
