ERICA SCHWARZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 2, 2021.
SCHWARZ--Erica Amy. (1988-2021). Our beloved daughter, died peacefully in her home with us in Santa Fe, NM on February 27, 2021. She was a courageous, spirited, compassionate young woman, who always maintained her love of life and an abiding sense of humor and a love for friends and family. She knew no self-pity and, in her short life, Erica took advantage of all that she was offered and able to do--which included tutoring adults and children whom she cared about deeply. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her, especially her mother, Leslie Levin, and her father, Roger Schwarz, as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Bethesda, MD.

Erica was an amazing friend. She was the first person I met in college and after college we continued to meet. She bonded with my mother over having chronic illnesses and became a family friend very quickly. I am heartbroken over the news and my thoughts and prayers are with her family now.

As our upstairs neighbors in Washington Heights, you and your parents were like a second family to us. Although very young at the time, you were struggling – and had had to struggle your whole life - with a condition much worse than anything most of us will ever know. With each of your stays in the hospital, we admired your persistence and bravery, and were amazed that you managed to remain so cheerful and kind. You seemed determined to keep going – to get the best education you could, to help other people through tutoring and teaching, and to lead as full a life as possible, in spite of all the difficulties you faced.

We’re so sorry that your time was cut so short. We know that nothing we say can help alleviate Roger’s and Leslie’s sorrow.

All our love,

-Jeff Rosnick and Sharon Hametz

Erica and I met as students through Marymount Manhattan College (MMC). Given that I had traveled all the way from Washington State she introduced and made me feel welcomed in Manhattan. I saw Manhattan through her eyes which I will be forever grateful towards her for, thank you Erica for showing me a place I knew very little about. Erica was such a brilliant, insightful, persistent, fierce, and loving person. Erica also had an amazing power in always listening to others and being present, this is a human quality that I will miss the most from her. One of my greatest friends is gone and nothing can replace her. Please know that I have Erica’s Parents, relatives, and other friends in my thoughts and prayers. Erica, you have all my love beyond comprehension, you will never be forgotten. Your impact has been huge on me my dearest friend. You were such a strong warrior. I can let you go. It is ok to go on now. Please know that you have moved on to a place where there is no pain, only love. You can be at peace now. Good Bye Erica. All my love and thoughts to you.

As a friend of Erica's uncle Andrew Levin I had known about Erica's struggles and accomplishments for many years. I only met her once, but was struck by her intelligence and courage. As a fellow young adult with a chronic disease it is always difficult to hear of the passing of another. My condolences and I hope you remember the good times you had with her.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet, So sorry for your great loss. I only saw Erica a few times, with Leo at the shul. She seemed very sweet and they looked very happy together. Also i have a very fond memory of Erica and Bambi wearing matching dresses one Shabbat, they looked so beautiful. May the memory of Erica be a blessing to your family and all who knew of her gentle soul.

From the moment I met Erica when Leo brought her home to meet us I could see the connection she had with my son. They were truly simpatico. Watching them together gave me such joy. Leslie and Roger thank you for sharing your precious daughter with us. We loved having her as part of our family. Your daughter taught our son how to love and she made him smile. My heart is with you both.

Leslie & Roger,

It was with great sorrow that we heard today of Erica's passing last Saturday. We know what pain you are now feeling, having lost a 21-year sold son 16 years ago. We pray that our Lord will give you, as only He can, His comfort and peace.

I personally was mad at God for awhile, but finally His grace came through and I was at peace.

I first met Erica almost a decade ago. Since then, she became a like a sister to me. She was an incredible being. Her kindness, humor and independence were some of the many things I love about her. Whenever it was too late for me to go home, she would always want me to stay over night because she didn't want to me travel so late. Other than that, she always put other people first before her. I will miss the visits, talks, sleepovers and her company but I will always remember the times I had with her. Rest in well earned peace, Erica. Love always. My sympathies and love from my family to hers.

I met Erica on Facebook and we became friends instantly. Both of us are CFers but she was the strongest CFer I've ever known. Loved her smile, laugh and personality. She was an amazing person and cared for everyone that she loved. I always enjoyed our many talks and I'll always miss our talks. We would text every single day, texting her made my day better. I will always miss and love her so much. Mr and Mrs.Schwarz you're always in my thoughts. Please reach out if you need anything.

Not only her friends and family but the world has lost a very special person. Erica is everyone's role model for never saying "no" when circumstances might dictate otherwise and for never stopping in her ongoing quest for the next step for a fulfilled life. She had to leave this world way too early. She was an inspiration to all of us and may her memory always be a blessing--and a motivation.
From the day you were born you always had a very special place in my heart and always will. There is no way anyone can make her parents feel consoled in this time--but I hope knowing that they did everything to give her the best possible life helps assuages some of the pain.
Love, Valerie

I have fond memories of Erica as a student and young adult at Marymount Manhattan College. Sometimes ill and sometimes not, she worked her way through the courses, learning and growing. I admitted her indomitable spirit and enjoyed having her in my classes. My condolences to her devoted family and friends.

Les and Rog,
There are no words I can say right now to take away the pain you both are going thru. You raised a brave, intelligent, and strong woman. Erica touched everyone who she met. Over the years, you guys became like family to me. Our angel is now free she gained her wings, and I’m sure she’s running around heaven pain free. Please know that Erica will always be with me, and I cherish all the memories we had.
Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out.

Érica and i had a special relationship, there was not one moment where she couldn’t tell me what was going on in her life good or bad and I didn’t listen and want to learn more from her. She was my teacher my friend my sister and my angel on earth. She always looked at me with adoring eyes, “I love you katie, i can’t wait to see you.” The words I’d hear from her over and over again. I remember when I hurt my knee and had to have surgery, she came over and when I fell she lifted me up and helped me back on the couch. I loved our talks and our mutual love for sappy movies, The notebook, the time traveler me before you and of course five feet apart. I remember burying my head in her shoulder when ever a scary painful scene would come on the screen. And the tearful moment we had when she told me she was leaving New York. Érica you are my candle in the wind and rain. And now, just wait for me. We’ll have those beautiful times again. To Roger, Leslie, Anna, Craig, Andrea, and all her friends and family, my heart is with you. She’s your angel now.
Rest In Peace sweet Érica.

Our last conversation

Me: If you go anywhere crazy will you wait for me?

Érica: Yes i will.
