Erika Abramson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2023.
Erika Savoie Abramson passed away at the age of 21 on June 16, 2023. Erika lived in Brighton, Michigan until her graduation in 2020, after which she moved to the Muskegon area. Erika found great joy in simple pleasures such as hanging out at her grandma and grandpa's house, having a good laugh with her triplet brother and sister, climbing to the top of her favorite pine tree, and celebrating with red balloons.

Erika had a fantastic sense of humor, and she relished her inside jokes that brought laughter to those in her inner circle. She was uniquely verbal, and much of her language came from exploring scripts from her favorite characters and videos. She loved Sesame Street and the Muppets, and she used scripts from these sources (and others) to communicate. She had a knack for applying meaning from these scripts to her daily life in unique, insightful ways, and she loved speaking in her favorite scripts with those who understood their meaning.

Erika was an artist who created beautiful, intricate patterns with Perler beads. She was an expert with puzzles, and she enjoyed playing Minecraft, especially alongside her cousins. She was a fashion icon, with an extensive collection of crazy socks, sunglasses, and fun hats for any occasion; she believed that wearing a birthday hat to school during her "birthday week" was never out of style. Erika enjoyed music, singing, and dancing. She loved exploring YouTube, where she discovered new passions, including Riverdance, "violin Julia Fischer," and top hat dancing. Erika enjoyed scooping her own ice cream, because she understood that portion control should never apply to this situation.

Erika touched the lives of many caregivers, teachers, and professional staff who comprised her village throughout her life, including fierce advocates at Livingston Educational Service Agency (LESA), Brighton and Howell schools, Muskegon's Craig Campus community, and Coopersville's Young Adult Services program. Erika was a reluctant trailblazer for inclusion, and she took great pride in seeing herself among her classmates in the Howell High School yearbooks.

Left to cherish Erika's memory are her triplet siblings Nolan and Regan Abramson, her mother, Laura (Christner) Abramson and her partner Pat Smillie, her father, Brian Abramson, and grandparents Edward and Karen Christner, Frederick Abramson, and Lilly (Patricia) Delosier. She will be missed by her aunts and uncles: Michelle (Christner) and Steve Burley; Jen (Christner) and Dan Hain; Cari Sorsa, and Rachel Sorsa. She will be remembered by her cousins: River, Chase, and Aiden Hain, and Mitchell and Audrey Felske.

A celebration of Erika's life will be announced at a later date on Laura Abramson's Facebook page.

I remember Erika as a 10 year old girl who was fierce and a fighter. I remember our many many walks around their neighborhood as it was one of her favorite things to do at the time. The sunglasses! Her must have accessory!
Working with Erika taught me so much. I use that growth and knowledge working with kids year after year. She leaves a lasting imprint.
Erika´s heart was huge, especially for her mom, brother and sister. It was really awesome to witness the amazing bond they all shared.

Erika, thank you for the hug that you gave me when you first met me. And thank you for the warm back hug you gave me when I needed to lay down. You truly are a little angel.
