Ernest Braxton Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2025.
Ernest Braxton Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. Born on July 24, 1937, in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Ernest grew up in a large and hardworking family. From a young age, he apprenticed in veterinary medicine, learning to care for both livestock and small animals, and carried forward the strong work ethic that defined his life.

As a young man, Ernest pursued his love of athletics and played college football at Fayetteville State Teachers College and Shepherd College. His promising football career was cut short by an injury, but the discipline and teamwork he learned on the field would remain with him throughout his life. He went on to work tirelessly to support his family, even helping to bring electricity to his mother's home.

Ernest later joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Veterinary Corps and completing two tours in Korea. While stationed there, he received commendations for heroism after saving the lives of three fellow servicemen-a testament to his courage and devotion.

After his military service, Ernest worked for the State of New York and later built a career in sales. Known for his gregarious personality, he had the rare gift of making anyone feel at ease. Ernest could strike up a conversation with anyone, often leaving them with a smile.

Ernest is survived by his devoted wife, Suk Cha Braxton; his three loving sons, Ernest Jr., Peter Kim, and Chris Kim; and his three cherished grandchildren, River, Keegan, and Quincy. His life was one of service, resilience, laughter, and love-a life that touched many and will be remembered with warmth and gratitude.

To he family of my friend, Ernest Braxton. My sincere condolences to his family. Ernest and I were school mates at Grandview Elementary School in Harpers Ferry and Page-Jackson HS in Charles Town, WV. The Jackson Family and Braxton Families were very close. We lost contact with him and often wondered where he was. We heard that he had two sons who were physicians, but knew very little about his family. I pray that his family is well, in spite of the loss of a husband, father, grandfather and friends. Prayers

To the Braxton family,

Although I did not have the privilege of knowing Ernest Sr. personally, I know his sons - and through them, it´s clear that he left a beautiful legacy of strength, kindness, and integrity. The way his values live on in his family is a true reflection of his life and love.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Linda Hendricks

Dear Dr. Braxton and family,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this incredibly difficult time.
What an extraordinary and meaningful act of kindness it was for you to take that road trip with him, from New York, home to Colorado, creating such a special and memorable farewell. The love and care you showed during that time is truly inspiring.
Sending you and your family strength, comfort, and peace.
With deepest sympathy and warmest thoughts,
Lori Fugate
