Ernest Dunning

DUNNING-Ernest (Ernie) passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Marian Chateau, Regina at the age of 89. Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years Kitty Dunning; daughters Cherry (Morgan) Williamson and Crystal (Barry) Frisk; grandsons, Shane (Jinny) Brunas and Todd (Janice) Brunas; sisters Lorna Hames (Victoria BC), Kay Van de Kamp (Calgary, AB); sister-in-law Tessa (Dusty) Howell (Regina); and the extended family includes: 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was born in Gray and spent his entire life working and farming in the community. He worked for the RM of Lajord in 1936 and 1937 building the road from Estlin to Riceton, now Highway 306. Farming was his love and he started at an early age with his father and continued farming until 1992 when his dream of seeing the family farm continue was passed on to grandson Todd Brunas. He served as Secretary Treasurer of Gray School, Gray Rink and Hall Boards. Ernie was active in all sports and excelled in hockey and curling. He was inducted into the "306" Community Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2003 Ernie and Kitty officially retired and moved to Marian Chateau in Regina. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home Hwy # 1 East, on Wednesday January 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend John Haas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gray Memorial Hall or the Gray Recreation Center, c/o Box 92, Gray, SK S0G 2A0.
