Ernest Elwood Gaddie 83, Indianapolis, passed away January 16, 2008. Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, he was a lifelong member of the Indianapolis community who served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-45. He earned the rank of sergeant. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Butler University as a pharmacy college student and worked as a pharmacist. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 36 years as a mail carrier and Zayre Department Stores as a Customer Service Manager for 23 years. During his retirement from the federal government and Zayre, he worked as a security guard for Conseco Fieldhouse and the Indiana Pacers where he worked for 18 years. A solider, veteran, pharmacy college student, pharmacist, mail carrier, retail store manager, and a security guard, he was a loving husband who was married to Barbara Y. Gaddie for 43 years. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by five daughters: Shari, Deanna, Judith, Andrea and Heather and a son, Brian. He had a son Ernest Jr. who preceded him in death as an infant. He is survived by three grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. He had many friends in the Indianapolis community from all walks of life. Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home on January 22nd beginning at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral services following after the visitation at 12:30 p.m.
