Ernest Francis Rose

WELLFLEET — Ernest F. Rose a lifelong resident of Wellfleet died June 1, 2010, at his home with his family near his side. He was a good and honest man who died as he lived, with dignity and a deep devotion to his family, friends and Catholic faith.

Born in Wellfleet to Joseph P. Rose Jr. and Mary Marshall Rose, he was the second of three children. He attended Wellfleet public schools.

He began work at a young age beside his father, brother, and uncles on many construction projects in the Wellfleet and Truro area.

He then established his own business, building dozens of custom homes as well as a few commercial buildings including The Wellfleet Savings Bank (now Cape Cod Five) where he served as a trustee for many years.

In addition to his trade he found time to pursue his love of clamming, fishing, hunting, and farming.

He was predeceased by Marguerite DeLory Rose to whom he was married for over 50 years. Together they had five children: Ernest H. Rose, Dorothy R. Herold, James A. Rose and the late David A. Rose of Wellfleet, and Raymond J. Rose of Harwich Port.

He was later married to Dorothy Earle Rose for over 20 years until her death in 2006 and was the stepfather of Frank Earle of Norwell and Dr. William Earle of New York City.

He is survived by his sister Rita M. Rose and predeceased by his brother Alfred M. Rose, both lifelong residents of Wellfleet, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday June 7, 2010 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2282 Route 6, Wellfleet, MA. Burial will follow immediately after in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Wellfleet, MA.
