David Huber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 25 to Jan. 27, 2012.
David Nathan Huber
"Hubes"
1978 ~ 2012
David Nathan Huber (33) passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Sunday, January 22, 2012. After a great day working in a job he loved at Brighton Ski Resort, he succumbed to asphyxia when the food he was eating became lodged in his throat despite heroic efforts by his twin brother, Ben, parents & paramedics.
David began his spirited life on March 2, 1978 with his twin brother, Ben, in Lewisville, Texas and was welcomed to the Granite community by his thrilled & loving parents, F. Charles (Chuck) & Deborah Ann (Debby) Calbillo Huber on March 31st. Growing up his whole life in the Granite neighborhood. Dave made friends wherever he went. He attended Granite Elementary, Albion Middle School and graduated from Brighton High School in 1996. Dave made a name for himself in soccer when he became a member of the National All-Rocky Mountain High School Boys Team and was presented with the National Soccer Coaches of America and Umbro 1996 Secondary School State Player of the Year Award for Utah. Following High School, Dave attended his freshman year at Charleston University in South Carolina and then transferred to Salt Lake Community College where he played on the soccer team which went on to play in the national tournament. He also made a name for himself when he won six months of free pizza during a radio contest where he kicked a field goal with a Nerf football ... of which his friends took full advantage of, adding to Dave's popularity. David continued his favorite sport playing professional soccer with the Utah Freezz for three years. David married Jodi Hall in 2008 and later divorced. He dearly loved his stepchildren, CJ & Dayton. Dave had a great love for his dogs, to which he gave clever names such as Gonj & Kips, with whom he is now happily reunited. He leaves behind his beloved dogs, Poncho & Copa, who already miss him dearly. The family especially wishes to thank Zach Doyle and the Doyle family for making it possible for Dave to work in a job he loved and that was a turning point in his life. Although his Facebook work status was set permanently to "retired", Dave could have happily worked at Brighton for years to come.
David is survived by his parents, brothers Benjamin of Sandy, UT and Jonathan (Jessica) of Heber, grandmother, Doris L. Fox, Utah, his niece, Hadlee Ann, nephews, Braxton and Ezekiel (Zeke), 21 foster brothers & sisters including Kent Briggs, Dixie Briggs, Bernice (DuWaine) Boone, Ron Jameson, Jerry Samuel, Natalie (Robert) Staker, Kambria (Nathan) Ward, and numerous foster nieces & nephews, and his beloved step children, CJ & Dayton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert & Florence D. Calbillo and Francis C. & Ortrude L. Huber.
Services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Granite Ridge Ward building, 3100 E. 9600 S. with viewings on Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., and Saturday at the Ward from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment at Granite Cemetery, 2940 E. 9800 S. Sandy, UT. Family suggests donations be made to the David Nathan Huber scholarship fund at the Salt Lake Community college. Online condolences: www.larkincares.com

Tomorrow will be the day that our beloved David moved on from his earthly home to his heavenly home. Twelve years is a long time, but it seems as if it was yesterday that we lived that nightmare never to wake up from it. But in the ensuing years we have grown so much. Our lives have not changed to much, but our thoughts, impressions and what we have learned with all our experiences prove that we have grown by leaps and bounds. I never think twice about setting a spider or a bug out into the free world again knowing that they have lost their way into my path. Life is so precious, and I don't want to take anything for granted. Dave had a lot of challenges to face in his beautiful life, some of them none of us would have taken on, but I know that going through each one he must have had a lot of learning to do and for whatever reason he mastered some to the toughest, and was learning to gain the knowledge he would need in the experience to help others who needed his love and compassion.

I am so grateful for the love of all of those who wrote their sentiments down on this page, it helps to remember how much David was loved. It gives us great comfort to know all of you were there during some of our direst moments, we are so grateful for all that you have done in these last 44 years to love and support our family. You are all treasures! The gifts from the Father that we will always cherish! May your new year be blessed and may you ever know how much we love you!!

Dave I saw this come up on email. Dang I can't believe it's been so many years but thoughts of you pop up often. Funniest memory is when you got that ring stuck on your finger and we tried so hard to pull it off. I tried the My best friends wedding move and nothing. Lol. Your mom came to the rescue and used dish soap. We thought it was a reason to celebrate so me, you, sherina turned up all afternoon bar hopping and ended up at Moe's. It was the best. I miss you, and I love you. We'll hang out when I'm done here. Sione.

To Dave, My Memories of You:

In 1980 when you were Two,
From the reservation I came to live with you.
A twin you were, with curly locks;
"How Cute" I thought, he really rocks.

Double trouble, many might say,
In my opinion, I'd say "Nay".
Your Smile, always so mischievous;
with Ben in tow, it was adventurous.

I was told, when it's time for bed,
Ben wears blue, David wears red.
A joke we will play, you decided
To switch the colors, while all excited
Laughing, giggling and wearing blue,
"I am Ben, I am Ben" you happily recited.

A talent for soccer you achieved,
With your brothers, you believed
Soccer & life, we must understand,
To you; they went hand in hand.

Many years thereafter have passed,
From toddler to manhood, your influence was vast.
Family, friends & acquaintances you have amassed;
Our love for you shall never pass.

Dave and Ben, with Jon included;
The best of friends, we've concluded
None could say, it would ever end.
So soon you leave this mortal life,
Though our hearts are full of strife;
Thru God's Plan, we know; there is Eternal Life.

Written & dedicated by: Bernice Boone

Chuck & Debbie ... What an inspiration you are as parents to have raised a son that is truly loved and will be missed by so many. I wish my boys will have the same zest and passion for life and people as Dave did. For those of us who were touched by his huge heart and compassionate fun loving nature will forever feel his presence in our lives. To Ben and John ,
No words could ever express the loss of a brother. You are in our prayers and thoughts! Love, Steph and Brock

Dave, I have missed you over the years. I think the last time I saw you was at my sister's wedding. I have thought about you often; especially since I had twins of my own 7 1/2 months ago (Abigail and Lincoln.) My sister informed me of the tragic news yesterday. I couldn't help but dig my high school photo album out of storage to find your pictures. I couldn't believe how many times you showed up in my album. At least 20. I have a school photo of you every year from 7th grade to 11th grade. I had fun looking at all of my Brighton HS dance photos - many of which you were in.

I remember flickering our lights on and off while talking on the phone so we could see eachother's houses at night. I also remember getting into trouble once in 8th grade because we were throwing rocks into the road to break them open. You were always someone who made me laugh and have fun. You were always a great friend. You won't be forgotten.

My condolences to Ben and family. My thoughts are with you.

Unbelievable ! So many of us in the soccer community are shocked and stunned by Dave's passing. Sunday night, we were gathered as a
family to share time and some thoughts for our Shawn as it marked the tenth year of his passing. I like to think Shawn was in line to give Dave a "huge" embrace. We're so sorry. We have many great memories of Dave's smile, soccer skills and friendship.
